Within Notes, is there a way to repeat a highlight. In other words, if I just highlighted a phrase using the yellow background color, can I highlight another phrase and use a speed key to repeat the highlighting process instead of move the mouse up to the background color icon and again manually select the color?

You can set up a shortcut key

    From the helpfile:

    13. To add a shortcut key to a system or custom style, click the command button (or right-click the style), click Shortcut key:, and choose from the available letters.

    Does that help at all?

Thanks. I assigned "Y" to the Yellow Highlighter Pen in the Highlighting tool, and this works when highlighting, for example, Biblical text. However, I do not see an option for creating a Shortcut key for Background color within Notes.

By the way, I also noticed that Ctrl+K (or H) applies the last-used highlighter to the Biblical text. But again, these do not work within Notes.

Correct. The developers use a completely separate method for highlighting with a note. The (restricted) highlight pallette is on the menu bar at the top of each note.

The reason has to be that a highlight is stored in a record exactly like a note. A note record cannot point to itself.
