Resources on External Drive - Thoughts
It has been indicated that the ability to store our resources on an external drive may be included in a future Beta. (Please!)
It was also indicated that we could specify only 1 drive rather than looking at several drives as with L3.
Would it be possible to have it set that if the default drive has no resources, it will then look at a second drive. It wouldn't actually have to be searching or pulling from 2 drives, just seeing one is empty and moving to the next. This would allow for using an external drive for most uses, but would also allow a smaller core library to be kept on the hard drive so L4 is not useless if the external drive is not present (traveling, lost, etc).
Of course, being able to have several resource locations would be great, but if not, it would be great to have such a backup resource location.

The index + resources would be on the nominated drive and the cloud will maintain one set of resources at that location. With the current philosophy, therefore, the answer would be NO.
However, there are some possibilities if you have two removable drives that you can assign the same drive letter ....
We really have to wait for Logos to clarify the matter.

I don't have much more to say about the external drive issue until it is implemented and I see ways to comment. However, one thought comes to mind as I read your post.
I have apx. 5G of resources and a large prepub order being released in 2 weeks (in L3 format). I have heard that the index is roughly the same size as the resources, making 10G. The largest thumb drive (which is the form of external storage I was hoping to dedicate to L4 use) I have seen is 8G. And L4 is going to download ALL my resources.
Even if an external drive is permited, the resources won't fit on the drive. Hmmmmm. (Again, I will have to wait and see how it is actually implemented) Hopefully the smaller L4 resources files will make up for doubling the needed space and allow it to still fit on the drive.

Rob, 16GB usb keys are fairly common now.
The question is whether the index will be written onto the key or not. My guess is no. Speedwise this is preferable.

Oooo! Ahhhh! I'll have to look around. I haven't seen those here (in Asia), but I am sure they are around if I keep looking.

I have an 8 gb drive that was under 20.00 so I'm sure that 16 is not far behind; money wise.

Thumb drive or USB drives hold up to 64 GB, but 16 GB is affordable ($AUD50).

You might want to try http://www.newegg.com.cn/Product/Search.aspx?keyword=SDCZ36-032G-A11 for some that are 16GB+
