I am with you. Sure wish we had a better method of bookmarks.
We can work our way through annotations, search highlights and we have the our general set of 9 bookmarks. They aren't quite like having a quick, simple set of unlimited bookmarks per book.
On the other hand, take a look here and see if something might work for you like it does for me:
