If I type "John 3:16 in NIV" in the search bar Logos opens John 3:16 and begins to read it aloud. I did not turn on this feature. How can I turn it off.

Actually you did. The "search bar" is an omnibox which invokes commands and searches, and when Logos detects a possible command it offers it as a preferred option over the search.
The omnibox learns you usage, so it may be that when you select the search say five times, this will become the preferred option that is top of the list and will be executed when you hit enter. But it seems the parser is not very intelligent here.
The phrasing "open NIV to jn 3:16" , short "NIV to John 3:16" will be better understood - this is the general syntax to open a resource to a specifiv location.
