Newbie with old iPad

Hey! I have the Wesleyan Silver package & while I like the desktop version, the iPhone app seems a little cramped. 

I have an old, old iPad 4th gen. But the newest app won’t install because of the old operating system. Can I download an older version to see if I like the iPad view?

Only, if you'd already 'purchased it' for the older device. Then, you could pull it from your 'Purchased' list on ios (the normal app-download wouldn't work, as you noted).

If you've a friend with a recent ipad (using your account), that'd be the easier way to see how the app meets your needs. Delete after. The extra real-estate makes the app pretty usable, for OL, etc. And you can add displays by using multiple FL apps (very handy) in ios.
