We have a spec for improve panel linking that we were planning to addressing this year, but it's not going to make it. It adds a new automatic mode as well as the ability to control whether it follows only or follows locations or clicks or both. I hope we can get to it next year.
That is great. I've certainly learned to live without it, but will be glad to have it. The entire concept you've presented will be helpful. Thanks.

Btw, I’m referring to the iPad version of logos

Jan, I'm not sure what you mean as I was not a Wordsearch user.
Logos lets you set on a per-resource basis how you read that resource. If you choose you can see the resource 'page by page' or as a continuously scrolling single page. Go to the stacked three dots and under Columns choose none for scrolling view, and one of the other options for a 'page by page' view.
EDIT: only saw your clarification after I wrote and posted this.
In iOS you have the same options: scrolling or page by page. Page by page is selected by selecting one of the Column settings under the resource's View Settings menu item (under the three stacked dots). You have to toggle scrolling view on and off to either use or not use that option.
Does that make a difference?

Thanks for the tip. Already tried that. It is more the option that every chapter is its own page. it is a visual ”thing”.
if I modify the scrolling, then to switch between bible and commentary takes an extra step.
FYI, I’m glad that logos is now in charge as ws had just abandoned the iOS solutions long ago.

I think WordSearch ' User Books ' feature is much easier to work with than Logos. I also like that WordSearch has it's own built in word processor. The ' Sermons and Illustrations ' feature is probably the one I will miss the most in WordSearch which I use frequently.

I miss the current verse being highlighted. I found a forum post from 2010 that said this can not be done in Logos.

I liked that Desktops (Layouts in Logos) saved when you closed them. In Logos we have to update before we close a layout. I would like to see an option where we can specify to save layouts when we close them.

WS allowed copy and paste of verses in formats we could customize. i.e. Verses without numbers followed by citation, and customize how the citation is displayed, etc. That would be helpful to me in Logos as well

The Logos Copy Bible Verse functionality does exactly that. See this wiki page for all the options you have: https://wiki.logos.com/Copy_Bible_Verses Check it out or yourself or come back if you need more help.

Play around with the Copy Bible Verses tool, John. It’s customizable.

I will also miss being able to view PDF directly in the software. I didn't use it a whole lot but it was nice to have when I did.

This may fall under the "Panel Links" issue that is to be addressed in the future, but I am not sure. In WS, I could have an entire commentary series (e.g. Interpretation Commentaries, Tyndale Commentaries, etc.) linked under one tab so the appropriate volume would open to the correct verse when I opened that verse in a linked Bible version. I have not found a way to do that in Logos.
0 -
Thanks, Scott. Chalk that one up to my not looking far enough. I was trying it the way I did in WS. I have my favorite format style up and running. Thanks again.

Note: I am talking about multi-volume commentaries that were brought into Logos from WS. Perhaps these have not been fully integrated yet, but I have found that if I link one volume, only that volume is linked rather than the entire set.

Robert Williams said:

It's pretty simple to do. Open a commentary that covers the whole Bible (no matter how many volumes). Just open one volume. (Logos automatically puts all the volumes of a commentary set in a series.) Open a Bible. Under the 3 stacked dots menu, select Link Set A (or any other letter you choose). Do the same for the commentary series, using the same letter you chose in the Bible. Now type a reference in the Bible. Your commentary will jump to that reference.
Few sets of commentaries cover the whole Bible. In the case where some books of the Bible do not have coverage, the linked commentary won't open to your selected reference. That's easy to understand.

How do I get to the Multiple resource display?

Robert Williams said:

That is not Logos' set-up, so either the other volumes have not downloaded, or they may still be being indexed or integrated into your library.
Try opening a commentary that you know you have a second volume of that commentary in your library. Do what I explained to link them. Type a reference that would open one of the volumes and see if it does, Then type a reference that should open a second one you know you have.

Click the little down arrow to the right of the two parallel line icon on the resource header. That will open a dialog box that lets you select which resources you want to show up in the multiple resource display. You toggle the display on and off using the two parallel line icon.

One way to enable something similar in Logos is to go to your Program Settings and change the "At Startup Open to" option to "Most recent layout" (pick "local" unless you specifically have multiple computers and want to sync your layout across all your installations).

Hello, Tim!
In Word click File-->Options-->Add-Ins and within the Manage dropdown choose Action and click go. Make sure there is a check mark in the Enable additional actions in the right-click menu.

Welcome [:D]
Two options in Logos (OR Verbum) are 1) using Linked Tabs OR 2) Multi-View ||
Screen shot shows Library filtered for Interpretation Commentaries and Tyndale Commentaries for Ephesians & Philippians. LEB is the Lexham English Bible (modern language translation with literal style) in two tabs using MultiView || (duplicated top tab followed by dragging tab to change location then changed Bible location to Philippians 4:4-9). The Top LEB tab has LEB Bible plus three Commentaries due to Tyndale Commentary series having more than one volume for Ephesians: Also have scrolled down in the Interpretation Commentary to verse 19 without changing Bible location.
Bottom LEB tab shows Bible with two commentaries from volume changes following LEB Bible location change from Ephesians 5:17 to Philippians 4:4-9. MultiView || allows commentary scrolling up OR down without changing Bible location, but changing Bible location causes commentary to scroll: e.g. Interpretation Commentaries have Bible milestone ranges so scrolling Bible within range causes Interpretation location to change to first verse in that range. Scrolling LEB to Ephesians 5:17 causes IC scroll to beginning of Ephesians 5:1-20 (linked tabs would cause Ephesians 5:1-20 to be sent to other tabs in link set so LEB location would change from Ephesians 5:17 to Ephesians 5:1).
Screen shot includes information for one commentary showing my title customization, see thread => Creating a New Series of Commentaries

My best guess is that you do not have access to this feature according to THIS document. If that’s the case, then you’ll need to purchase, at a minimum, the Starter Feature Upgrade to obtain this particular feature.

With the Wordsearch 50% package discounting, Fundamentals would be just $50.00. You would get Multiview and a number of other features.

There are so many features of WordSearch that I would love to see added to Logos. I loved the Desktops feature, the Carousel, the Collections feature enabling more specific library searches, etc. I also loved the search abilities: Cross-Reference Explorer, Instant Verse Study, Verse Explorer...WordSearch was GREAT!! The User Interface may not have been as appealing as Logos, but WordSearch had a lot, I mean A LOT going for it. I really do hope that LIfeway takes WordSearch seriously and implements the best of both worlds. I look forward to seeing what will be done.

As noted earlier in this thread, Logos already has Carousel-equivalent functionality (called Parallel Resources), and it also has Collections.

I just want to agree!! Dated interface, but ever so practical. I can live with a dated interface. But state-of-the-art, up-to-date, "latest" "greatest" loses all of its appeal when it is not easy and practical. I'd take "dated" over "new and improved" any day in that case. I too will miss WordSearch. Here's to hoping Logos puts together the best of both worlds!

The built-in web browser would be nice to bring over, but with a major upgrade.
The built-in web browser in Wordsearch was hopelessly outdated and based on IE. It didn't work on Mac.
I'd like to see something similar to what Accordance is doing with their web browser, but with one more major enhancement: bookmarks (or tie the built-in web browser to the Logos Favorites tool). The Accordance web browser doesn't offer bookmarks (I have to use User Tools, which is clunky).
Possibly do something based on Chromium so it works well across platforms and will remain up-to-date.
I would love to be able to search my school library and the other few websites I use inside a web browser window in Logos.

Hi Jason - and welcome to Logos and these forums.
Are you able to provide some details on functionality provided by the Collection Feature, Cross-Reference Explorer, Instant Verse Study, Verse Explorer?
If Logos does provide similar functionality we should be able to outline how it works

My sentiments EXACTLY...except that instead of WS, I'm talking about Logos 3 aka Libronix. Logos (Current) can obviously do more, but L3 is superior in so many ways. I've had L4 thru L7 for the last decade plus, but I still find it impossible to do what I want easily or at all. More current versions of Logos are like thalidomide babies compared to L3--there's plenty they can do (usually with much greater effort being required than ought to be the case), while there are some things that simply can't be done at all. It's all quite criminal.

I cannot find the exact place in the forum, but earlier someone was asking about the web browser. I just did a test. You can create a folder in your Logos Favorites and drag and drop any browser url's you would like access to straight from Logos. They will open directly from your favorites. Once you have them in your favorites, you can drag them to your shortcuts bar if you want even more immediate access to them. I keep a couple of websites I use often in both places so I have easy access to them. Thanks, Carla

Thanks for your speedy response. I guess I am too new to Logos to realize all of their features. I am glad to know so many features carry over and I look forward to using them.

Sure, I can provide some details on those features. I got a response saying that Logos has the Collections feature. It is called Parallel
something or rather. I still have to look into it. The Cross Reference Explorer was great because a search could be done through all
of your material based on where your books just use the Cross Reference. For instance, you could actually search every time "John 3:16" is cited
throughout your books. There you would find the context and comments which could benefit your study.
Instant Verse Explorer (I don't know how they do it!) puts together a quick "I'm in a hurry and need stuff fast" collection of material for quick
preparation.
Verse Explorer is different than the Cross Reference Explorer... though they sound the same. Where Cross Reference Explorer searches
through your books for a Bible reference, The Verse Explorer feature breaks down a verse and gives you matching material on each part
of the verse. Brilliant!! So, for example, a study on John 3:16 you would find material from your books on "God" "love" "world" "giving"
"Son" "eternal" "eternal life" etc. What a great tool!
I would be thrilled to see all of these work in Logos just as effectively as they did in Word Search.

Logos has Collections - https://wiki.logos.com/Collections and Parallel Resources - https://wiki.logos.com/Parallel_Resources
They are different - although Collections can appear in the list of Parallel Resources - so worth looking at both of them and seeing what they provide

This can be done using a Milestone search in Logos

This sounds a bit like the Logos Passage Guide - https://wiki.logos.com/Passage_Guide

It might be worth looking at the Topics section of the Passage Guide - although it only accesses a few number of resources.
Hope this helps a bit

Graham's approach will work. Logos has a tool called "Cited by" that works very much like the Cross Reference Explorer. You can find it under the Tools Menu. You can enter a reference and choose to have it search a collection, all of your resources, or a subset of them. Give it a try.
JASON HINES said:The Verse Explorer feature breaks down a verse and gives you matching material on each part

Logos does not have anything like this. You can right click on any word you are interested in and get the option to look that word up in a number of your resources, but that is one at a time. In my way of working with the text I'd find Verse Explorer gives me a lot of information I don't need. In your example there are a bunch of words I wouldn't need to look up, however, maybe 'loved', 'the world', 'only begotten', 'believe' and 'eternal life' would be of interest. So I can take a little more time and just focus on the few words of interest to me without having to look through a lot of words that are of no interest.

I have used wordsearch for many years. I have always loved it's ease of use. That includes Zipscript. But other features were very easy to use such as clicking on my library and all of my resources are listed. Now I have not had a chance to dig into Logos yet so these things may be there and I see as I use it more.

I would really like to see the instant verse study feature of Wordsearch added to Logos.
It goes through the books that you indicate and gathers material on the Scripture that you choose and then makes it into a document that can be pasted into your word processor.
In my opinion this is what a true research assistance does. It does not just look up the information but also places it into a nice, readable document.
You can then do such things with the document as make it into a kindle book to read on your e-reader or amazon device.
You can also turn it into a Logos personal book and then make a note file based on it and further funnel down to the most useful material for your research.
Many people would like to see the send document feature to kindle restored but it looks like that will never be done.
Instant verse study is a nice option that helps you get one step closer to turning your research material into a kindle document.

While I’ve used Logos more than WORDsearch over the last number of years, I do still miss a couple things.
1. The library feature in WS which shows up along the left like a Windows Explorer or MacOS Finder window. I know I could drag the library from the menu to the left, but that folder like organization is so simple and missed greatly.
2. ZipScript was so good because I could fire it up and initiate inserting the Bible anywhere in Windows with first going to WS. With Copy Bible Verse feature in Logos you get more customization but this simple feature made ZipScript better for simple quick insertion of Bible passages. I’d love Logos to create something or create the tools to make it possible for a 3rd party programer to do it.
3. I forgot how much I liked having the current live Bible verse highlighted until saw someone above mention it.
