Can't Write Note - following devotion

I can't seem to add any new notes; just started a 10-day devotion. I am able to highlight the text, but nothing shows in the Notes section; when I select "New Note" nothing happens. If I select the drop down and select "New Note" nothing happens. Not sure what I am doing wrong, I am new to this
