A Non Wordsearch Question that involves Wordsearch.

I put the question here because what I want to know isn't a "How do I do X coming from Wordsearch?" But it does involve the fact that the acquisition exists.

My question is, Would it be reasonable to assume that the development of Logos 9 is going to be pushed back on account of the acquisition and integration of wordsearch?

An interesting question, but why would that have to delay the release of Logos 9?

Was the acquiring of WordSearch something that has been in the works for a while or was it a recent development?

Either way I look forward to the release of Logos 9.

I suspect whatever their time frame  is (and if you look at the release history, this fall is a reasonable guess), likely factored in WS's acquisition. I suspect that acquisition has been somewhat more work than expected. However, I wouldn't think it would delay the release (whenever that may be). There are different teams within logos, and some folks (like Bradley) seem to have a finger in every pot. But I suspect the teams are mostly made up of different individuals keeping the development tasks separate to a degree. Based on that, I wouldn't think there would be much interference.

EG: the L8 beta team, is mostly separate (or seems to be) from the WS integration team, which is different than the team that OCR's new books, and checks them for issues, or the team that tags new prepublication books, or the team that handles sales, or customer service.

My thought was it might have been taking up the resources otherwise used. Especially if this was in planning for awhile.

I could be wrong of course

My second guess is that the 50% discount new logos users who came from wordsearch are getting will likely expire before the next major release.

But that is just a hunch.

They already KNOW what titles are in L8 base pack and what they can afford to spend and still have L8 be profitable, and can determine what their expenses will be (and lets be real at 50% off, new folks buying a base package is an expense - Bob has posted about the Logos profit margin being in the single digits in the past). Enough for them to grow year to year and hire new people, even in a rough economy, so praise the Lord for Bob's leadership.

Well there is some team crossover. So there could be a fractional slowdown. Who knows. They may be able/willing to talk about it after the launch.

Interesting question. One clue is when the special 50% discount for WS users will expire. I'd expect it to expire before L9 launches, whenever that is. If that date is extended very long that might indicate L9 is being held up.

I do imagine whatever date FL has in mind for L9 it would want to have all its new WS users onboard for the launch.

I’ll be happy to be proven wrong Wink

Even if 9 were launched tomorrow it would be nearly impossible for us to say whether it had an impact or not.

We can only look at things like corporate culture - eg the segregation of teams - to make guesses about such things.

I doubt it. The acquisition would take some time to negotiate and execute - information that would have been available to some extent early in the Logos 9 planning cycle. So I suspect it was built into the schedule. However, given the key personnel who "disappeared" from the forums presumably to work on the WordSearch conversion, if anything goes seriously wrong I would see a potential hit on the Logos 9 schedule.
