creating a new note in a notebook

I am watching some of the videos on sermon preparation.  The one I am watching currently says that when I select the drop down menu that says "new note" after creating a new notebook, it will give me some options.   It does not.  It says to name it "new note on ......"  there is no option to name it anything.  It only gives the option to select a new note.   So how do I create a new note and name it?  And what other options are there supposed to  be?  What am I missing?   I'm so confused!

Notes do not have titles in Logos 8.

Please link the video Kathleen, there was an old note system that those videos maybe are referring to, which was replaced with Logos 8.

    That's a good point Kevin.

It says to name it "new note on ......"

This should, assuming you have a Bible open with a passage selected, give you the option to create a note linked to that passage. Are you not seeing this?

The video is  one in a series that was on my Logos home page titled "Sermon and Bible Study Prep Series."  In the top in small letters it says Logos 8, so I assumed it was for Logos 8.  It is the third video in the series and it is titled "favorites, notes and clippings."  At least I am pretty sure I am remembering that was the one I was watching.  So do I understand that you are telling me this is no longer possible in Logos 8, and that this instruction is from an older version of Logos?  I was so confused already about what I was watching that if there are instructions that don't fit with what I have in my software I am going to be really confused!!!

I'm looking up the video now.

I think I see the confusion. The video talks about naming the Notebook, not the note. It is also a little misleading because the video does say give the note a title. This is merely the first line of the note and not a true title line per se.

    Hope that clears things up.

Hopefully David has addressed your initial query but if there are other things causing confusion please let us know what they are. We might be able to help

As David mentioned you must create a new Notebook and rename it befor you can ad a Note to it... Ad a Note to means one of your Notebooks you have created

The video shows four options listed when you click the arrow beside new note in the upper  right corner of the notes panel.  When I click there, I see  only the option to create a new note and no other option, no option to name a new note as the video suggests  and even as you suggest in that it is the first line of the note.  There are no options as the video shows.  That is what confuses me.  If this is merely a difference in Logos 8 and a previous version, I guess I can live with that.  But the succeeding notes that  reply to my question have caused me even further confusion as if you aren't  quite referring to the drop down menu I am looking at and the video refers to...... Please clarify this for me.  Thank  you.

This is not to do with any difference in versions - the video shows current behaviour as per my screenshot above.

But it does depend on having a resource open with something - such as a passage range - defined to provide the information for the various options.

In the absence of that, you just get the single option to add a note.

The video has the ESV open to John 7:37-39 whihc is why it shows the options to add notes / highlights to that range of verses.

Do you have any resource open when you are clicking the New Note button.

Ah!  Thank you.  Now that makes perfect sense.  I hopefully will get to where I see that menu change.   I had nothing else open as I was merely following  the video and it didn't have anything open except the notes.  thank you for this very helpful answer!!!!
