Lessonmaker

As a Wordsearch user, one of my favorite resources was their Lessonmaker program, for generating lesson handouts for small group Bible studies.  It is a really neat program!

Does Faithlife have plans to replicate the full functionality of the Lessonmaker program?

Thanks, Steve

There has been much discussion in other threads, and yes, they are going to implement in some form in the future

Thanks for your response.  I was hoping to hear something more definitive from FaithLife.  Here is apparently what they have said to date:

We did acquire all LessonMaker content and will be looking for the best way to bring it into Logos.

So they are not saying they are going to fully replicate all the features, like the panic button feature, which allows you to chose multiple resources.  They are just saying they will make the Lessonmaker questions and some other content accessible in Logos.  Sounds like an inferior product to the original program.

It would be unrealistic to expect a full, precise replication. I would expect something similar which integrates well with Logos features with some advantages and some disadvantages depending upon the users' needs and openness to change. As the sermon editor is what Logos users currently use for lessons, my guess it that new features will be added to the sermon editor or a parallel editor for Bibles lessons.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Sitting here at work (on OT) thinking about LessonMaker (LM) and the Sermon editor (SE). SE is actually a good alternative editor for LM. It will allow you to create handouts AND the big plus, will allow you to easily create PowerPoint slides. LM was sorely lacking in that area.

The two items that Logos would need to replicate (IMHO) to make most WordSearch/LM users happy is 1) The Panic Button feature to quickly create lessons with just a couple clicks and 2) and I am guessing with this one is with a single click you can reorder/renumber the questions.

If you paste the questions out of numerical order LM can clean the lesson up for you.

Make a collection of LM Resources, do a topic search within that collection, copy/paste into SE, make your slides, make your handouts, and I think you effectively have LM (just my unsolicited opinion [;)] .

The Sermon Starter Guide includes a number of Thematic Outlines with the ability to copy them directly to the Sermon Editor and provide the basis of a Sermon.

It would be interesting to get your perspective on how useful an approach this would be to provide similar functionality to the Panic Button

    Hi Graham,

I have about 20 minutes to go before I can clock out and head home after a 12 hour work day (it wasn't really THAT bad. I work in a quality lab, 68 degrees-F all the time). I will look at the Sermon Starter this weekend (Still have to work...Yea! O.T.!).

I kind of remember playing with the Sermon Starter before but did not really do anything with it. (You know how it is. New software. Click around. Hey! What does this do? kind of thing. [8-|])

But yes, I will look at it.

    Some pointers

The Sermon Starter Guide is available from the Guides menu and can work on either a passage or a topic. In the example below I have used a passage in John's Gospel. I've ensured the Copy option in the Thematic Outlines section is set to Sermon. There are a range of options but this is the one you need to populate a Sermon Document.

Then you can open this section, just the theme you want to focus on and click Copy

This creates a new sermon document populated with the information from the outline that can be used as the basis for a sermon.

It would be interesting to hear what you think of this option.

I'm interested in hearing more from people who miss LESSONmaker. Click here if you're willing to talk to me.
