Hyperlinking to a specific location

I am trying to set up a hyperlink within a note to a specific location in WBC on Colossians - specifically the commentary on 3:1 which starts:

"1. εἰ οῦ̓ν συνηγέρθητε τῷ Χριστῷ. With the assertion, “since, therefore, you were raised with Christ,” the apostle" (this is on page 159.

However, the resultant link points to the introduction to that section of the commentary starting:

"Seek the Things Above (3:1–4)

The actual hyperlink is coded as - "logosres:wbc44;ref=Bible.Col3.1"

If I try and link to the commentary on Col 3:2 which starts:

"2. τὰ ἄνω φρονεῖτε, υὴ τὰ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. In the light of Christ’s heavenly " (page 163) it works correctly.

Here the actual hpyerlink is coded as logosres:wbc44;ref=Bible.Col3.2

I assume - but don't know - that the first link takes me to the start of the section because a reference to Col 3:1 appears in the introduction to the section and so it is a tagging issue.

I seem to remember seeing this discussed elsewhere but can't find it.

Any thoughts?

I believe that usually when there is some introductory material, the tagging includes that intro material in the commentary on the first verse that that intro material applies to. Since there is no separate introductory material before 3:2, then the tag for 3:2 is right at the beginning of the commentary on 3:2. You could request that Logos move the tag for 3:1 to right where the commentary on 3:1 begins, but I think they might not go for that, because then the beginning of the introductory material wouldn't be addressable.

Interestingly, Logos does have the ability to address that beginning of the commentary on 3:1. If you scroll in the commentary to the precise point where that commentary portion is at the top of the window, then close the WBC Colossians window, then open History (from the Tools menu) and click on Colossians 3:1 WBC Vol 44, you will get back to that exact location. The problem is they need a way to address that location in a hyperlink. It should be doable.

I guess what would be nice is a tag for the verse and a separate tag for the introductory material to the section.

Hey Graham, guess what! As of 4.1 Beta 1, you can now hyperlink to a specific location.

Here's a link to that commentary location on Colossians 3:1, which I generated by simply doing Copy location as URL.

I don't know if you're using the beta, but if not you can at least have something to look forward to when 4.1 ships.

The Beta is good if you have a fall-back plan to an alternative install under a different login, or a 2nd PC, or L3 maybe.

For me, I only run the Beta and wing it, but in general, I have no mission-critical needs. If its broke for a few days until there is a fix, or I reinstall, thats OK for my current usage. If its not for you, make sure you have a Plan-B.

For the record, I have not had many issues I can't work out or cope with, but some of them may have been too much for someone less into computers, and with a task they needed to complete instead.

There have been a couple of crashing bugs reported in Beta 1, but in my experience, this beta is more stable than most of the previous Beta 1's have been. I think they are doing better at internal testing before releasing it to us, after our complaints in the past. It means we have to wait a bit longer for the beta, but that's a small price to pay for more stability.

This is consistent with my observations. I haven't been seriously affected by a beta crashing bug since I managed to break the highlighting tool in the 4.0c Beta (whenever I opened the tool Logos crashed)

In the hyperlinking question it is certainly better in 4.1B1 but still not totally accurate.

I was trying to link to a reference relating to Hosea 1:4 in WBC31 (commentary on Hosea-Jonah)

Specifically I was trying to link to this passage:

"It should be noted that the present oracle does not per se condemn Jehu’s coup at Jezreel, called for by Elisha (2 Kgs 9:1–10). דמי יזרעאל could mean “bloodguilt of Jezreel” in the sense of a wrong needing requital, but it more likely means only “massacre at Jezreel” in the sense of a great, decisive slaughter. The former connotation, “bloodguilt,” is found for דמים in Lev 20:9, Deut 19:10, 2 Sam 21:1, etc. But the connotation..."

but the link is actually set to the start of the commentary on the verse:

"The new child was linked by his name with the prophetic message from Yahweh. The command is exactly the same as it would be in the case of No Compassion and Not My People: קרא שם “name (him).”

There are approximately three paragraphs between the two locations in the commentary and on different pages in the printed edition.

I note that in the release notes Logos refers to having a "Implemented a more fine-grained page location for “Copy location as: URL...” as opposed to a totally accurate one!

I would be interested to know whether this is likely to improve further.
