Community Tags

Community tags are how the user can add Faithlife tags such as the Bible entity tags to untagged text. Therefore, a text term search will find no results. However, it allows the user to tag resources such as The A to Z reference works so they are easily found for the Biblical person Abraham despite being untagged eBooks. I usually tag only headwords or large text words; other users choose to tag every instance in a resource. The two methods co-exist easily so that the user can do what works best for the task at hand. My only complaint is that community tags are not removed when an official Faithlife tag is added.

Note one can also use Community tags to add an alternative tag when there is ambiguity, provide more specific or more general tagging . . .

The usual mouse-over preview and click to open behavior applies.  Executing the Search at the bottom of the section, generates a basic search of Community Tags.

Books.Logos.Com

From Verbum Help:

[quote]This section searches the online http://books.logos.com website of Facsimile Resources, which are image scans of manuscripts that have been tagged to support searching within Verbum. Clicking the title of a resource will provide previews of the manuscript with the search term highlighted, and a link to search for the term on the website.[1]

These Facsimile resources do not distinguish between the Bible entity and the text term; both are treated as text terms. Clicking on an entry opens it in your browser.

On the web page, options are available to:

  • Search for books
  • Download books into your Verbum library
  • Read excerpt
  • Copy citation

Bookstore

The Bookstore section offers resources you do not own that are relevant to your search argument. This can not be replicated easily on the bookstore site.

The Bookstore section has a familiar format.

  • Section header with expand/contract arrowhead and section title
  • Bookstore header with expand/contract arrowhead, title, result count and time
  • Resource header with expand/contract arrowhead, thumbnail cover icon, resource title, number of results in number of articles
  • Detail entries … article title, sample text, matches highlighted
  • Resource options – preview and bookstore links (see below)
  • Final section line – link to search bookstore

Select Preview option for a resource:

Note that you may purchase the resource from within Verbum.

Select Learn More option for a resource:

This provides the standard product description page from the bookstore. Note the data under the Product Details. It provides useful information on how the product will behave with Verbum.

Executing the Search Bookstore at the bottom of the sections expands the number of resources shown and the number of matches shown within those resources. However, it depends upon “more” to show all suggested purchases.

Note that the Everything Search has not searched:

  • Interactives
  • Labels (or their datasets)

External resources

Note that third-party services that can be accessed through Verbum (or Logos) are not included in the “everything” search:

  • Documents.logos.com
  • DVL Digivatlib (Vatican Library)
  • Faithlife: groups, ask the author, community notes
  • Faithlife Music
  • Faithlife Sermons
  • Faithlife Wiki
  • Google maps
  • IgniterMedia.com
  • INTF Institute for New Testament Textual Research
  • Perseus
  • SermonAudio.com
  • Support.verbum.com
  • Topics.logos.com
  • Wikipedia
  • www.standardlesson.com resource: The NIV Standard Lesson Commentary (annual)

Summary of Search Types and Resources Scanned

Searches mark n/a are not easily replicated by the user. The other searches may be run through the Everything Search, the Search panel, or for some, a web based search.

Hint: always contract all the sections of the Everything Search before closing the Panel. Only expanded sections will populate when you open and run the search. Closing sections speeds the performance because you are not waiting for sections you have no interest in.
