Verbum training: Parallel Resource Sets
Multiple resources is the solution when you want all the resources visible at the same time and want one resource to drive all the others. Parallel Resources is the solution when you wish to spin through a number of resources, e.g. a group of commentaries or dictionaries.
From Verbum Help:
[quote]Parallel Resource Sets
Choose which set of resources will be accessible when using left and right arrow buttons or keys to view Parallel Resources.
To view Parallel Resource sets:
• Open the Parallel Resource sets dropdown by clicking on the resource toolbar.
• Select the pre-built All parallel sets, or a user-defined collection (see Note below), by clicking the corresponding column header. The checkmark will switch to the active collection
• Click a resource in the drop-down list to open that resource directly.
• To edit a collection, right-click the title and choose Edit [collection] to open it in the Collections panel.
• To remove a collection from the list of Parallel esource sets, right-click the title and choose Remove collection from list. The collection can be added again by checking the Show in Parallel Resources box in the collection’s edit window.
Note: collections must have the Show in Parallel Resources box checked to be listed on the dropdown.[1]
- The parallel lines icon turns on Parallel Resources. (1)
- The icon opens a menu of parallel resource list – two lists per page – with the navigation between pages handled in the lower right corner (2)
- Clicking on the title of the list selects the list as the active parallel resources list (3).
- Most of the collections offered are user-created, but the system provides list such as “All parallel resources” (4)
Once the parallel resources is set, then when this is the active panel:
- If one is on the NRSV, the right arrow will change the tab to the JPS
- If one is on the JPS, the left arrow will change the tab to the NRSV
- If one is on the LES, the right arrow will change the tab to the NRSV as if the list were circular.
When one creates a collection, one must set “Show in parallel resources” (1) for them to be available for use as a parallel resources list.
Another example of the use of parallel resources for a resource panel Beekes, Robert. 2010. ed. Alexander Lubotsky. Etymological Dictionary of Greek 1 & 2. The options for parallel resource are (a) a user-created collection on Greek etymology and (b) all the resources I own with a Greek head-word index. Select one of the lists, then the right and left arrows allow you to spin through your lexicons. Unlike Multiple Resources, Parallel Resources simply reuses the panel rather than requiring additional space for the additional resources.
