Tip 46: Factbook Biblical Person: Library Results: Resource Panel Menu: Context Menu resources

Please be generous with your additional details, corrections, suggestions, and other feedback. This is being built in a .docx file for a PBB which will be shared periodically.

Previous post: tip 45 Next post: tip 47

The Panel toolbar provides access to related resources through:

  • Multiview resources
  • Parallel resources
  • Equivalent resources
  • Link sets

Now we turn to the Context Menu which provides access to related resources by selected data type”

  • Resources to Search
  • Resources for Look up

  • Select the text to study (1) and right-click on it to open the Context Menu. For this example, selection has been selected on the left-hand panel.
  • Note that Search (2) offers six options – one an inline search on the current resource and five varying the resources that will be searched
  • Note that Look up (3) offers five options based upon priorities. In this case, the options are based on highest priority encyclopedias (“Bible dictionaries”).
  • Mouse over a Bible dictionary provides a preview of the entry.

All of the generated Search use the text argument “Abram”:

  1. Inline – the current resource NRSV
  2. Bible – the current Bible NRSV which is the highest priority Bible
  3. Basic – the current resource NRSV
  4. All Open – all open resources, in my case just the NRSV
  5. All Resources – all unhidden resources
  6. Everything – the everything search which was covered in detail in Tip 41

If on the left side one changes to reference:

  • The Search resources remain the same, but the search argument becomes <BibleNRSV = Gen 11:29>
  • The Look up resources change to the top five priority Bibles

If on the left side on changes to manuscript:

  • The Search resources remain the same, but the search argument becomes אַבְרָם֙
  • The Look up resources change to the top five priority Hebrew dictionaries/lexicons.

If one selects the lemma on the left:

  • The Search resources remain the same but two search arguments are used: a lemma search <Lemma = lbs/he/אַבְרָם> and a lemma with morphology search lemma:אַבְרָם@NPMSA. The former is used with all the standard searches plus a morphological search on the NRSV; the latter is used solely in a morphological search on the NRSV/
  • The Look up resources remain the top five priority Hebrew dictionaries/lexicons.

As you work your way down the data types offered on the left-hand side, you will continue to see the Lookup resources changing while the search resources remain comparatively stable. What you see will always depend upon your library and your prioritization of the resources in that library.
