Greater Men and Women of the Bible is in the final stretch. Currently at $15, closing in on $12 for this 6 volume work. Just a few more orders will push it down. Published nearly a century ago by T&T Clark. I've always been impressed with their books, and they're still in business after all these years. That speaks well of their quality. Bible characters don't change in 100 years, so this classic work is still very pertinent today.

Don't miss out on this great value. Over 3100 pages.

Bid $15, but price should drop to only $12, if a few more people bid before the deadline, Friday noon, 7/16

This would be a terrific resource linked to the Biblical People report!

I agree, but the recent experience with Zondervan dictionaries suggests that it won't be. Perhaps Sean Boisen could confirm whether this resource will be tagged with LCV. If it is, I'm in!

I'm with you.  My "exuberance" and exclamation were actually a veiled suggestion that it WILL be linked.  [A]  I suppose I need to be more obvious.  Thanks for doing that for me!

Come on, everybody. It's $15 now and will go up to about $100 by the end of this week. Whether it's linked into Biblical People or not (I hope it will be) it will still come up in searches. You can do what I've done and make a collection for Bible Character Studies which will include this as well as other resources you might own such as Larry Richards' Every Man in the Bible and Every Woman in the Bible, Arthur Pink's The Life of David and Gleanings from Elisha: His Life and Miracles, F.F. Bruce's Paul: Apostle of the Free Spirit, and a couple of others. I feel that collection is pretty weak (there isn't much else in Logos's catalogue that would build it up), and I cannot wait to add this to it!

So close to $12 kids! Take a look or another look if you haven't already.

It would just take a few more people...

    Hi Rosie and everybody else,

It seems like you know more about this bidding process.  I  have a question: I just bid $15 USD for the 6 vols. resource.  Does that mean that I will get all 6 vols. for $15? I'm just curious, since everybody seems to be pushing for $15.  Thanks for any info you might give me.

    Best wishes,

    Douglas

Ps.  It'd be nice if we could all bid for Albert Barnes OT & NT commentaries to get them cheaper.

If production costs are met at $15, then everyone who has bid $15 or above will get it for $15 - it being all 6 volumes.

Or less - if enough additional $15 bids are received, the price could still drop even lower.  But you will get the lowest price for which it eventually sells.  There is no need to lower your bid - you get the lower price automatically.  I originally bid $45, but I will be paying $15 or lower.

    Mark:

Our long-term goal is to integrate as many dictionaries (and other subject-oriented resources) into the LCV as we can. That includes the Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible (which i expect we'll get started on soon, believe it or not), and other resources as they're developed, including this one. I don't want to promise anything, since we've already got a significant backlog we're trying to get through (though you can expect some good news on that front next month), and priorities can change. But that's definitely the intention.

I just discovered these forums and the General in specific.  I also just felt the sheer exhilaration of reading this thread and making my first community pricing bid at $12.  You people are too funny!

Welcome, Paul! You realize, I hope, that if the price doesn't go down to $12 by Friday noon, your bid will be lower than the final price, so you won't end up getting it at all. And then it shoots up to $99.95 when it goes into pre-publication. If you want to be sure to get it at the Community Pricing price, up your bid to $15.

And we still need a couple more people (not sure exactly how many) to bid in order for the price to go down to $12. We all get the benefit of the lower price if it does go down.

Paul, be aware that if more people do not bid, the price will be locked at $15.  If you bid $12, you will then miss the deal.

On the other hand, if you bid $15, you will get the book for either $12 or $15, regardless of the final price.  There is no guarantee that the book will sell for $12 - that will only happen if enough people bid for $12 or higher.

Be assured that it will be a very long time before the product will be available. Only when it becomes available will your credit card is charged. You will received a notice before the product is final.

You can cancel your order at any point along the way.

You cannot ever get the books as cheap again if you miss out when CP bidding closes at noon Friday.

Bidding at $12 did not help lower the price.

This morning it is at $12!!

Yeehaw!!  That's $3 more dollars I can spend on ice cream (they've just opened a branch of Cold Stone Creamery one block from my house!).

Edwin you're straight to the point on all your posts and are willing to post updates to things happening over there on the community pricing page, so we don't have to go check.  However I'm going to have to say I think any bid in some way would help drag the price lower.  Obviously the higher the price of the bid the more impact.  After your post I changed to $15 and woke up to $12!

If I'm not mistaken you've got a KC royals cap on in your picture too.  My wife and I live north of the river and we try not to admit we're Royals fans for the time being... [*-)] [:P]

And it is rapidly approaching $9 - with 24 hours to go, there is a very real possibility.

It is true that any bid equal to or greater than the current strike price will help to drag the price lower. But it is not true that the higher the price the more impact. If you bid $30 that says you're willing to pay any price up to and including $30, including $15. But it doesn't mean 2 more people are willing to pay 15, so it does not help any more than if one more person bid $15. The dot at any given price indicates what percentage of the production costs are covered by N * P, where N is the number of people willing to pay that price or more and P is the price.

EDIT: And changing your bid up to $15 did not make the price go down to $12. That was just a coincidence. Someone else must have bid as well around the same time.

Congratulations on successfully bidding on what looks like one of the best buys ever on Logos.

Yes. That is a KC Royals cap that I am proudly wearing while standing at the K. I moved to KC 23 yrs ago and quickly became a huge Royals fan. It has been tough being a Royals fan over the last 2 decades. I enjoy every game at the K. It's just better when they win. [<:o)]

I have a 21 game pkg and go to additional games. Fortunately, my wife is as big a fan as I am. I'm looking forward to July 10, 2012, when I will be able to watch my one and only All Star game.

BTW--I live in Grandview and work in Overland Park. I noticed that you are a student at Midwestern Seminary. Do you happen to know Kevin Williford?

Now its at .03 cents a page at the $9 mark!  (not sure how that compares! [;)])

Does anyone know much in regards to comparison to the new Whyte "Bible Characters".  Its at least .06 cents a page if it were to make it to $9 [:P]

Edwin, alas I do not off hand, I'm a night schooler in order to get through debt free, so I bet I miss a lot of great people around here.  If he takes night classes, then I've probably even talked to him.  We're a hearty and dysfunctional crew, but we mean well.

Don't know. I can't find a digital version of Greater Men and Women on the web. I own Whyte's Bible Characters. It's a pretty well-known classic (sample pages available on Amazon in a title called "Bible Characters from the Old and New Testaments" -- his entire work complete and unabridged in one volume). Hastings has a good reputation, too. Given that it's only $9 now, I'm keeping it and have bid on Whyte as well. I'm sure there will be some overlap, but at those kinds of prices, I'd love to have them both.
