Tip 48: New Factbook Biblical Person: Show all for . . .

Please be generous with your additional details, corrections, suggestions, and other feedback. This is being built in a .docx file for a PBB which will be shared periodically.

Previous post: tip 47 Next post: tip 49

Here are examples of all the sections included in “All pages for ‘Abrah’”:

Notice that sometimes a single entry may fill multiple function as in the second entry in “Top Results” which is tagged for Cultural Ontology, Preaching Theme, and Supernatural Being. This means that the entry type does not always indicate the section in which you will find record.

Man (Author) factbook entry

Notice the inclusion of people with a first name of “Abraham” e.g. Abraham Kuyper … man, person, author seem to be inconsistent in their use. However, the associated Factbook entry has sections not seen in yesterday’s post.

New Sections:

  • Key Article
  • Events
  • Personal Letters

Sections currently missing:

  • Community Tags
  • Respond

Sections with significant modifications:

  • Library Results has been replaced by Books from Your Library

Concept factbook entry

Under Concepts one finds entries such as “Abrahamic Promise”. As new records often appear to use Concept as a default, I am still fuzzy as to the intended limits of this category.

This entry was called a topic in Logos 8. The changes to the entry should be familiar by now. There is nothing unique to this entry type.

Religious Objects (Biblical things) factbook entry

This is the barest entry we have seen. The expected Key Article and Key Passages have not yet been added. However, Dictionaries, Semantic Roles, Library Results, and Respond have been removed.

Writing factbook entry

This entry was a topic in Logos 8. Community Tags and Respond are missing from the previous version. Key Article, Media, Sermons, and Bookstore have been added

Geographic factbook entry

Geographic factbook entries have the changes we have come to expect.

Other Factbook entries to explore:

Bible Book factbook entry

The new section Bible Book Guide expands into the subsections familiar from Logos 8.

Resource factbook entry

This entry is basically a place saver that links to the resource itself

Denomination factbook entry

Denomination entries are still very error prone; the computer made some rather humorous matches. This is an error where your corrections are especially appreciated.

Language, Syntax / Language, Morphology factbook entries

A new entry type that is just beginning to be populated. However, it is a great step forward towards a single place to look up definitions of Verbum linguistic and syntactic vocabulary.

Counseling Theme factbook entry

This factbook entry parallels the new Counseling Guide.

Bible Manuscript factbook entry

This new factbook entry type provides Bible Manuscript information, complementing the parallel Manuscript Explorer Interactives.

Timeline (non-Biblical) Event factbook entry

Another very incomplete entry type.

No, this has not exhausted the new entry types in Factbook. However, it is sufficient to show you the breadth of the project.

Are you going to be updating the previous tips that used V8 ... or is everything you addressed before V9 entirely unchanged?

I do intend to update them, especially the screen shots. But very little in them changed - by design. However, I would like to get feedback on a few issues:

    1. Were the tips of a reasonable length or would you like some subdivided?
    2. Was the level correct or did I assume too much previous knowledge/memory of previous posts?
    3. Is it acceptable to do some reordering of previous posts to make the overall structure of the entire document more clear?
    4. If you could change one thing about the posts, what would it be?

I would give them topical titles rather than only numbers. When I first see them, I don't know what they're about, and after I've read them, I don't know which is/was which.

From my perspective, clear structure is key. So yes!
