Verbum 9 Tip 1: Data: Occurrences of Personal Name (translation)

How do I find all occurrences of a Biblical Personal Name in a Bible?

Derived data:

• Number of occurrences of personal name per resource
• Number of occurrences of personal name per verse
• Number of occurrences of personal name per chapter (article)

Preferred resource: Bible with reverse interlinear Bible

Setup:

• Enter “Open NRSV to Gen 11:27” into the Universal input box on application toolbar. You may substitute any Bible with a reverse interlinear. Other Bibles have limited functionality.

It is critical to distinguish between a personal name which may be shared by multiple people and a particular person known by that name

Method 1: Interlinear icon on resource tool bar

 

• Select the Interlinear icon (alpha-omega) (1) on the Resource toolbar. If the icon is not present, there is no reverse interlinear.
• In the Interlinear Options menu, if there is a reverse interlinear entry (2), there is a reverse interlinear for this resource. If there is only an interlinear entry, then there is no reverse interlinear.

Method 2: Interlinear information in Resource Information Panel (resource)

 

• Open the Panel menu from the kebab icon (1)
• Select “Information” (2); the Information Panel will display.

• Scroll down to the Reverse Interlinear section (1). If there is no such section, the resource has no reverse interlinear. Note that this also tells you what original language text was used for the (reverse) interlinear. The (reverse) interlinears do not show as resources in the Library Panel.

 

Method 3: Interlinear information in Resource Information Panel (library)

Setup:

• Open Library Panel from the application toolbar.

• Select the Show Information Panel (1). This is a toggle switch.
• Select the Bible being considered (2).
• In the Information Panel, scroll down to the Reverse Interlinear. This is the same information that was seen in the resource information panel.

 

Method 4: Bible Word Study à Translation ring

 

Setup:

• Select a word in the text (1).
• Right-click to open the Context Menu.
• On the left side of the Context Menu, select the lemma (2). Note the orange line on the left indicating that the lemma is selected.
• On the right (action) side of the Context Menu, select Bible Word Study (3).

• In the BWS generated by the setup, navigate to the Translation Section (1).
• Select the Section header bar.
• Select Settings (2)
• The application provides a list of all Bibles in the library with reverse interlinears in alphabetical order of abbreviated title. Either (a) enter the standard abbreviation of the Bible being checked in the search box (3) or (b) scroll down the list to see if the Bible is listed i.e. has a reverse interlinear.
