Method 1: Panel Menu à Find (in this panel)

From Verbum Help:

  • Find (in this panel) — Cmd+F (Mac) / Ctrl+F (Windows) — Overlays a find box in the upper-right of the resource. Find (in this panel) looks for the text in the resource as typed, and is not to be confused with Inline Search, which serves as a more thorough, true search.[1]

Note that because the Find looks for the text as typed, it is limited to finding only stems or a specific form of a word. There is no stemming routine to apply a “Match all word forms”

Setup:

  • Open Find bar either by Panel Menu (1) à Find (in this panel) (2) or by Ctrl+F

  • Type “Abram” in the Find Box (1). Note “Abram” will find both “Abram” and “Abraham” while “Abraham” would omit the former. It will also match their possessive forms.
  • Icons allow one to clear the Find box, go to prior occurrence, go to next occurrence, and to close the Find bar.

Notes:

  • If the Find box turns pink, there either are no matches or no more matches.
  • The icon at the right in the Find box toggles between a find icon (magnifying glass) and a clear icon.

Method 2: Panel Menu à Show inline search

Data: Number of occurrences of personal name in resource

From Verbum Help:

Inline Search — Cmd+Shift+F (Mac), Ctrl+Shift+F (Windows) — opens a Search bar where the user can complete an entire set of searches that will appear in the same resource panel.

•   Search results can be displayed by Verse, Paragraph, or Pericope. View options appear in the top right-corner under the resource toolbar.

•   Search results can be sent to Bibliography Document, Passage List Document, Search Panel, Visual Filter Document, or Word List Document. The send to button  is to the right of the search display button under the resource toolbar.[2]

Setup:

  • Open Inline Search bar
  • Set Inline Search parameters

Setup: Open Inline Search bar:

  • Open Inline Search bar either by Panel Menu (1) à Show inline search (2) or by Ctrl+Shift+F

Setup: Inline Search parameters:

  • In the Inline Search bar, set the Search type (1) to “Bible” – an arbitrary choice as either “Basic” or “Bible” work; See Search Panel instructions below.
  • Leave the text searched parameter (2) at “All Bible Text”.
  • Leave the passage range parameter (3) at “All Passages”.
  • Choose verse, paragraph, or pericope as the display context length (3). An example of each is given below.

  • Enter the search argument i.e. the text personal name into the Search argument box.
  • Select the appropriate entry in the selection list.
  • Hit enter so that the total number of occurrences show.

Note: For Abram in the NRSV the count of occurrences is 61. The screen shot given shows the results in verse, paragraph, and pericope display context lengths.
