The old Factbook had a section at the bottom where you could make suggestions on how to improve it.

I guess they feel like they reached perfection here, because they no longer ask for input.

I am reading in Ruth, and there is the part where Naomi tells Ruth to go where Boaz is sleeping and uncover his feet.

Factbook said that it had something to say about uncovering the feet, and I wanted to know what that was. An ancient middle eastern custom?

No, the article was about Ruth. No mention of uncovering the feet. And no way to tell Logos what Factbook didn't do but I think should have.

Instead of Factbook, what about the cultural concepts section of a passage guide? Just curious to see if that does what you need it to do. Carla

For this, I would use a Passage Guide and check commentaries about biblical customs.

This is where you go to either one of the cultural commentaries or a regular one for clarification. Factbook is a tool that may get you answer quickly but it's not going to answer all of your questions and it is still a work in progress.

What we need, though, is someway to very quickly get some idea about something in the text. Say, a place name we are unfamiliar with. Tell me where I heard that name before.

Your suggestion requires opening a guide and scrolling down. Factbook is supposed to be that instant resource. I hadn't thought of what you suggested. I will look into that. Thank you.

But still I think Factbook needs some work, and they took away the most immediate way to make suggestions.

Thanks, Graham. Carla suggested that too. But we need something where we don't have to stop our reading more than we have to just to find out what something means to help us in our reading.

FB is a big help here, but then they shut off the place where we can make instant suggestions.

We definitely need to provide a way to give feedback: that's planned for an upcoming release. It was delayed in part because we recognized that the previous system didn't provide everything we wanted it to, and we want to improve this feature rather than just ship the same thing.

If you open the Passage Guide to Ruth 3:4 and look in the Cultural Concepts section, there's a link to the Factbook page on kinsman-redeemer . That provides some broader background, but nothing particular to uncovering the feet. Often commentaries are the place to find that more specific information: from the Commentaries section in the Passage Guide, i found a link to NICOT which has some helpful commentary on this practice and what it might mean (though the text isn't completely clear on this, according to the articles i read).

Ah, you might be right. If you hover over the word "uncover" in Ruth 3:4, the popup points to Ruth, because she's the (implicit) subject of this verb.

The context (right-click) menu provides a much richer set of relationships for this word. We didn't try to put all the context menu information on the popup that results from hovering over the word.
