Make Logos 9 Slower

I'm not kidding and it's actually an on-going issue as this particular problem seems to persist from previous versions.

I prefer to turn off automatic updates. Maybe I have something I want to do uninterrupted by Logos maintenance. It used to be more of an issue on my older machines, but it works for me. Now on the older machines, it sometimes comes up with a download, and before I can click on the download, it vanishes. I then have to hit the update button. And wait. And wait. And wait. It might take 5-10 minutes. If I restart the machine, the download comes right up again, but it doesn't persist. It vanishes before I can get to it. This is extremely exasperating.

This can't be hard to put a decent delay in the notification with some sort of conditional clause to keep it up so that I can use it.

Please fix this. Thank you in advance.

I don't understand the issue if that is what you do i.e. set Automatically Start Downloads = NO. The notification remains until I click to allow the download.

I am afraid that I don't really understand what you are getting at either.

Are you deciding that now is the time to allow the update because it is a convenient time to allow the download or is the notification that a download is available interrupting your work in some way.

Perhaps a screenshot of the offending 'update button' might help my comprehension!

What is supposed to happen is that a little yellow band appears to tell you there is stuff to download. And it gives you a link to begin the process. When it works, it is just fine. However, and this is where it is just crazy, it vanishes before you can get to it. This happens at startup WHY? Sadly, and this is what irks me, is that it makes it completely unusable on the one machine that I really want it to work properly. There's no reason for the function to timeout and disappear because you can't use it.

I've had to resort to using automatic download on this machine which means I can't ever use it for anything I hope to need it for quickly. It simply turns into a boat anchor for however long it takes whenever there is an update.

As I've noted before this existed before L9. I do think there is some hardware mischief involved because it behaves perfectly on some machines and not others. And I also consider it relates to library size. Big library and slower hardware.

It sounds like a weird quirk, but could I recommend putting a shortcut on the shortcut bar for the "Update now" command? Then, you could leave automatic updates off, then hit that button when you want to check for and download updates.

That's possible. It just runs horribly slow to kick in with a big library on this machine. I am not concerned at this point about myself as I will probably reinstall this to a curated level soon which should work much better including this feature. It did when I tried it on another machine. FL may have overlooked this because they probably don't routinely test run stuff on dinosaur machines with big libraries to test if it still flies. It's very time-consuming. I don't think they assume we all run on good hardware but how much they devote to legacy QA is something I have no idea about.

That L9 runs as good as it does makes me happy.

So assuming you have Automatically Start Downloads = NO, also set Show the Notification Bar = NO (as this would be the "little yellow band"). Then all notifications will come via "the blue circle with a number" at top right of the main toolbar.

I tried the Notification bar once or twice and never liked the space it used, and it was annoying. You don't have to mess around with update now because you can forget the quirks of the little yellow band.

Hmmm. I will have to try that option. I never saw the bar as a big space hog but yes it isn't good on screen real estate especially on a typical laptop. Thank you so much!
