Datatype vs. text term

Factbook section (untitled)

Datatype: With a datatype search argument, the Factbook section points to a single Factbook entry for that datatype.

Text: With a text search argument, the Factbook section points to the “Show all for nnnn” page. In this case that represents 204 entries. The number of entries here gives you a rough sense of how much noise (non-applicable results) you get when using the text argument.

Fuzzy Bible Search

Datatype: n/a

Text: With such a simple search argument, the Fuzzy Bible Search is unlikely to be useful but it is provided.

Preferred Bible

Datatype: Using the datatype search argument, all references to the person Abraham are found.

Text: Using the text search argument, only occurrences of the name Abraham are shown.

Library (Downloaded)

Datatype: The datatype search only considers tagged resources i.e. primarily Bible and reference works. However, all these references apply to the Biblical person Abraham.

Text: The text search looks at all downloaded resources in your library. This allows commentaries, monographs, etc. to be searched. This dramatically increases the number of results but with the noise of non-Biblical Abrahams being included.

Library (Cloud)

The comments made for the downloaded library results equally hold for the cloud library results.

Your Documents

Datatype: Because users generally don’t/can’t tag their documents, this generally finds no results.

Text: This finds all occurrences of Abraham in the users’ documents. This is often exactly what one wants when searching your own content.

Your Personal Books

The comments made for the Your document results equally hold for the Your personal books results.

Faithlife Sermons

Datatype: To my surprise, the Faithlife Sermons site does not use Faithlife tagging; therefore, it yields no results.

Text: This duplicates the results one obtains by searching on the website itself.

Faithlife Media

The comments made for the Faithlife Sermons results equally hold for the Faithlife Media results.

Topic

Datatype: n/a

Text: This provides links to the reference resources e.g. Bible dictionaries. It is dependent upon Verbum alignment data. Note the helpful suggestion to run the search on both names “Abram, Abraham” rather than the simple Abraham that we have used.

From Your Library

Datatype: Library metadata has no tagging, therefore the datatype provides no results.

Text: The results are based on finding the text search term anywhere in the metadata – title, author, subject, … -Therefore the results are usually broader than one actually needs.

Media Collections

Datatype: The datatype search identifies slightly more than 200 resources that are tagged for Abraham.

Text: The text search identifies over 1,400 resources related to the term “Abraham”. These include all those found by the datatype.

Atlas

Remember this searches just the Verbum Atlas resource, not all type:Atlas resources in your library.

The text search argument picks up one more map “Isaac’s life” than the datatype search.

Community Tags

Datatype: Community tags are datatype tags. Therefore, they are found only by the datatype search argument

Text: n/a

Books.logos. com

The tagging of the facsimiles is minimal. A datatype search argument finds a few resources while a text search finds many more but with the noise of irrelevant Abraham’s.

Bookstore

Datatype: The datatype recommendations lean more towards mobile education and reference works.

Text: The text recommendations lean more towards commentaries and monographs – at least when using my library as a base.
