15 verse limit on Word by Word guide?!? (Logos 9.1 Beta 4 WIN 10)

When I run the Word by Word Guide, it will only show 15 verses.

A lot of pericopes are longer than 15 verses.

My expectation is that it would show all the verses in the entered reference so I don't have to run it several times in 15 verse increments to cover the whole pericope. (If a limit is needed, maybe to the last verse of the chapter in the entered reference.)

Settings:

Show all words
include only these parts of speech (with no boxes checked)

Tested with NET, ESV, NASB, LEB

Reference Entered > Reference Displayed:
Genesis 12 > Genesis 12:1-15
Genesis 12:1-20 > Genesis 12:1-15
Mark 1 > Mark 1:1-15
Mark 1:10–30 > Mark 1:10-24

You are correct that there is a limit of 15 verses. That was true in L8 as well but I don't know when it was imposed. Yes, you have to subdivide some pericopes.

No, please don't build anything on the arbitrary chapter divisions that doesn't have to use them.

Limitations

It takes some time to perform all of data associations that the Word by Word section entails, so the section is limited to a maximum of 15 verses at a time. If, for example, a user runs the guide on all of Genesis 1, the Word by Word section will end at Genesis 1:15. As a workaround, run the guide again on vv 16–31.

It might be from the Time of lame Ducks Computers...but today I gues it could take more than just 15.

This was raised internally recently, so we just raised the limit to 60 verses. (This covers over 98% of the chapters in the Bible.) The implementation itself hasn't been improved to run any faster; just the hard-coded limit has been raised.

I don't know which version this will ship in, but it should be listed in the release notes when it does.

This is true (and I agree with MJ that we shouldn't give any more weight to the Bible's navigation system (chapters and verses) than they deserve).

I've never tried to use the Word By Word guide through an entire passage, just through a verse or two at a time. This is mainly because of the time it takes to fully populate – I can't imagine how long it would take to fill out 60 verses – but also because the information is presented Verse By Verse, and not Pericope By Pericope.

Would you mind me asking, does giving Word By Word an entire pericope change the way it presents information?

I can't imagine how long it would take to fill out 60 verses – but also because the information is presented Verse By Verse, and not Pericope By Pericope.

Why would you want pericope by pericope (see below)? This assumes you provide a chapter or large verse range as input?

It would still be Word by Word, but there would be one Pericope heading instead of many Verse headings e.g. from the pick list for Romans 8, I can select an 8 verse pericope or a 25 verse pericope starting at verse 1 (if this is what you meant by "giving....an entire pericope"). So I would want to see the verse range of the pericope I selected. The text selection frame preceding the Word definitions would be much bigger (representing up to 25 verses) and disorienting compared to a frame for a single verse.

Not very long if you don't let it look up words when it loads:

Settings:

Show all words

This quickly loads all the verses but none of the word definitions.

I then click on the words I have a question about or need to research. It loads the information quickly for the words I want to see and I don't have to navigate through a bunch of words I don't need to research.
