I made a collection of about 200 commentaries. A couple weeks later when I searched the collection all my commentaries were in the collection. I am positive I did not add them. When I went to the collection tool it showed all 800 of my commentaries in the collection. What happened?

How did you make the collection - is there a rule for it, or did you drag & drop only?

Drag and drop. Now that I dragged and dropped about 500 volumes out of the list its seems to be working. What is a rule? I am a new Logos 9 user. very familiar with software programs but have used different software for 30 years. till 2020.

    What is a rule?

A rule is a specific selection statement you type into the Start with Resources matching... box. This creates what is termed a dynamic collection so that any time you add a new resource that matches your selection criteria it is automatically added to your collection.

There are a number of ways you can form a collection like you have. What I do is either tag the resources I want to have in the collection with a specific tag, say XYZ, then set up the selection criteria: mytag:XYZ, or I rate the resources with one to five stars and then create a collection to pull in the resource type and rating span that I am interested in, for example (type:"Bible Commentary" AND myrating>=4)

Sometimes I use a combination of this plus dragging and dropping.

    The wiki has more information.

Let me make an additional suggestion. Once your current collection is as you want it, go to Library and filter the library to only show that collection. Then select all of the resources, open the info panel and tag all of them at one time with a simple tag. You can them use this tag to recreate your collection should something unexpected happen to it, simply by using the selection criteria mytag:XYZ where XYZ is your selected tag. No more dragging and dropping.
