Logos 9 questions

1. Is there a complete list of what types of resources can be prioritized, and how many? I have seen a couple of lists in the wiki, but (I may be wrong but) they seem to be not the same.

2. Can type:Harmony and type:Concordance and type:Apparatus be prioritized?

3. I believe in Logos 7, if you had devotionals in your priority list, they just popped up on your home screen when they had devotionals on the day. For example, if I had an Advent/Christmas devotional from Dec 1-Dec 31, it would not show up all year then pop up on my Home Page on Dec 1. How does that work with the cards in Logos 9 - in other words, how are the priorities of devotionals used now?

Thanks!

All resources can be prioritized ... the question is whether or not the prioritization shows in features of importance to you. There is no limit to the number prioritized. When your list ends, the system picks up with its own default priorities.

    2. Can type:Harmony and type:Concordance and type:Apparatus be prioritized?

    Yes

, how are the priorities of devotionals used now?

    I don't know ...sorry

They aren't. Or, rather, they have no effect on what shows on the home page. Independently of prioritization, if you have/create a home page card for a devotional, it will show on all days that it has an entry. If you don't have one, it won't.

While any resource can be added to the prioritization list, not all resource will see an effect from having been placed in the list.

Prioritization only affects the process of finding a resource that contains a milestone for a particular reference or headword. (For example, a Bible has a Bible reference milestone for every verse, chapter, and book in that Bible, and a dictionary has a headword milestone for every entry in the dictionary.) When the application goes to find a resource with a particular reference or headword, it effectively walks through the list of prioritized resources in the order you specified (falling back to the order Faithlife has specified).

In some scenarios, we can order a list of resources by prioritization, but only in situations where the location of interest in each resource is a milestone of the same type. In other words, you can't use prioritization to sort Bibles and Calendar Devotionals together. The first has Bible milestones and the second has Day of Year milestones.

If you want to see what kinds of milestones a resource contains, then you can take a look at the list of "Indexes" on the information page for that resource. A resource that doesn't have any "Indexes" will gain no benefit from prioritization.

A Bible Harmony, for example, probably contains Bible index. If you prioritize them, make sure you don't prioritize them over your Bibles, or else you'll see them show up when you try to navigate to or look up a Bible verse. The only time prioritization of these would be useful is if the application is trying to show a list of only Bible Harmonies for a particular Bible reference. Does that exist anywhere? I can't recall.

Thanks Andrew. Type:harmony does seem to be used in the Parallel Passages section of the Passage Guide, but only 3. It would be great if Faithlife got some intern over the summer to build a chart for us of the resource type that can be prioritized, how many are used, and where are they used! That would be a nice project.

It also seems that type: Concordance conflicts a lot with type:Encyclopedia. I am actually not sure which I prefer to be prioritized in the Topic Guide/Dictionaries section lol.

There are a few resources that have links from other resources or tools and it is important if you want to open the original language version or the English version to prioritize accordingly.. These included, but are not limited to:

    1. Philo
    2. Josephus
    3. Apostolic Fathers
    4. Pseudepigrapha
    5. Apocrypha

Thanks John, but I am not sure quite what you mean or how to do it. Could you give me an example of what you are saying?

    Peter,

I apologize that I was not clearer. Do you have any of these resources and if so do you have both English and Greek? If not, then there is nothing for you to do. But lets say  you have the apostolic fathers by Lake in both English and Greek. If there is a reference that opens that resource in a tool or resource do you want the English or Greek version to open? Prioritize the one you want to open.

Again, if these resources are not in your library or you do not utilize them, then you can just ignore my comment.
