Application & preaching/teaching commentary

With the recent announcement of the NIC commentary and commentaries from Zondervan I would like to ask what commentary you most recommend for application to life today and preaching/teaching ideas.

I have a good selection of technical, informative, factual, etc. commentaries so I am not looking for more about the Bible. Rather, I would like to hear your thoughts about commentaries for teaching the Bible including application notes (which may obviously have info about the Bible as well, but that is not the focus).

There are several commentaries with "Application" in the title (such as the NIVAC), but I would like to hear your thoughts about which are most useful for this purpose. (They need not be recent releases for Logos . I just want to ask, now that the commentary selection for Logos has had a large jump.)

While I cannot specifically speak to the logos resources, I can speak to specific content available on logos. 

I find NIVAC an excellent resource along the lines of application. There is a "Contemporary Significance" section in NIVAC that I find useful for application, and the "Bridging" section I also find a lot of content prompts me to discover life application that is specific to my audience. NIVAC, like all commentaries, have OK editions or sections, but most everything I've worked with has been excellent. In particular I've found the OT print editions I've worked with to be "the best."

The "Life Application" commentary series is another on that I have heard good things from preachers that are excellent (better then I) at application-focused teaching.

My personal experience is that one man's "application" is another man's "technical" commentary depending on your comfort with original language. I would suggest you take a look at a single module where available from Logos, or stop by a bookstore. If I'm not completely sure of an large electronic bundle purchase, I typically order a single printed commentary.

Also consider the BST and IVPNTC.

Caveat: I have not preached in years so you might want to disregard my opinion.

One Logos resource I enjoy is the Jon Courson's Application Commentary (NT or Whole Bible.) http://www.logos.com/products/details/2793  It is certainly NOT technical or likely to impress those who deem themselves "scholarly." It is much like a good preacher having a talk with youthful adults sharing how the Bible is relevant to modern living.

It has cursory commentary running through the text and topical studies that go a little deeper.
