Documentation

Data

From Verbum documentation:[quote]

•  Priest

•  Agent: The person entity annotated as a priest.

•  Role: The context-specific role of this instance. Available roles include:

•  Priest

•  High Priest

•  Chief Priest

•  Deity: The divine entity the priest serves. Most priests in the Bible are priests of God but there are others mentioned in the text.[1]

Bible Browser

The Browser shows the standard behavior.

Interactive

There is no interactive for this dataset.

Context Menu and Information Panel

The Information Panel behaves as expected.

The Context Menu has the expected Copy reference and Search functions. However, the Look up function is missing.

Search

Choosing the Bible Search in the Context Menu builds this Search argument: {Label Priest WHERE Agent ~ <Person Melchizedek> AND Deity ~ <Person God> AND Role ~ "Priest"} which produces this result:

QUIZ

1. Use the Bible Browser to find the event of Abraham meeting Melchizedek. Then write a search to do the same thing. Remember that there are multiple correct solutions.

2. Use the Bible Browser to find priests of Zeus. Then write a search to do the same thing,

Answer to question 1:

In the Bible Browser Priest → Agent: Melchizedek followed by Events → Participants: Abraham. View the results in pericope format as event was asked for not references.

Use an inline search to use a pericope boundary. Event is not a label for searching so I can’t replicate the Bible Browser criteria. Using {Label Priest WHERE Agent ~ <Person Melchizedek>} <Person Abraham>, get me a New Testament result which is not the narration of the event.

I chose to limit the results to the Hebrew Old Testament.

Use the Context Menu to identify the Biblical Event and look it up in the Biblical Event Navigator.

Selecting the Biblical Event Navigator yields:

Answer to question 2:

In the Bible Browser, simply select Zeus under Deity in the Priest tab

Note that the unnamed priest does get full treatment as a Biblical person:

The Bible Search should give the same results as the Bible Browser but the Bible Search only has the verse option. The search argument is {Label Priest WHERE Deity ~ <Person Zeus>}
