BUG: Information Panel "translates" a non-existent reference

I have not run into this before; under the red box, the info panel says "harmful spirit" refers to ... the only problem is that "harmful spirit" does not appear in the NRSV. Something went awry.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

It is tagged as a Harmful Spirit

Isn't this what the Information Panel is picking up on?

Isn't this what the Information Panel is picking up on?

It usually is in the form of -- "he" refers to: Harmful Spirit -- where the "he" is the surface text and Harmful Spirit is the tagging ... this might be a common form but I don't recall running into it before. Somehow, harmful spirit means harmful spirit seems a wee bit axiomatic.

I'm not sure I'm following - I would have thought it reasonable for a harmful spirit to be tagged as a harmful spirit in the same was as a proper name is tagged with the name of the person.

    It seems similar to this

But I'm aware I missed your very reasonable point yesterday and may be doing the same thing today!

The entity in 1 Sam 16:14 and following is https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%23Spirit.150, which has the label "Harmful spirit". My Information Panel (9.1.0.0018, Update channel: beta) doesn't have this particular display though: what version is this?

I'm not really sure what you're asking about: is it the phrasing '"Harmful spirit" refers to ..."?

I do see it - running the same version!

And I think MJ's point may be that the panel says "harmful spirit" refers to but the words "harmful spirit" do not appear in the biblical text.

The only Bible I can find that does use that phrase here is the ESV.

It is that harmful spirit does not occur in the text so telling me what it refers to is meaningless. I am use to seeing this type of entry on antecedents or other types of deixis. I am using the NRSV and the selected text in blue is shown in the screen shot. The panel is on hover mode.

"harmful spirit" appears to come from our Referent Data (the same data set that powers "Referred to as", which IIRC you've also complained about not matching the Bible text you're using [:D]).

Note that if you display Information on 1 Sam 16:23 then the Information Panel will show "spirit from God" refers to, which seems to confirm that it's the same data set.

Thanks Bradley = that makes sense as the source.
