Navigation and history within single resource

I find navigating within a single resource (Greek for the rest of us) quite challenging (Android; Samsung Galaxy Note 8).

Once I have lost my place by going back with the back button, I'm lost and don't know how to get back to where I were.

Sometimes the back button goes back on my browsing path. Sometimes it goes back to the Table of Contents. Sometimes it exits the App. I haven't been able to figure it.

When I tap a hyperlink to text within the resource, I can't return to the previous location.

Still very confusing to me.

Any guidelines?
