Is there a setting to turn off the advert/splash screen on loading please?

I strongly dislike strong in-your-face branding on just about everything I buy/own, and will often avoid products or services that are too over the top.

I think from Logos 9, the splash screen triggers my strong dislike, and I'd like to turn it off please. Is there a setting or file I can edit to make it go away?

Hi Jim, if I understand you correctly, you may find relief by going into "preferences"/settings and changing your "at startup open to" setting to "Blank Layout" or to one of your own saved layouts, as opposed to "Home." Does that help with your concern?

Yup, that's what I would guess, too. Especially since he seems rather techie (was looking for a file he could edit to make this go away). To Brad: This is precisely what a splash screen is. It's displayed when a program is loading to let you know the version number and to have something to look at while some of the loading process is happening.

I frankly never pay much attention to splash screens, so I hadn't noticed that this one now has an advertising slogan or mission statement in it. (I don't think they ever used to in previous versions.)

Jim, if you change your shortcut (or create a new one) to the LogosRootFolder\System\Logos.exe the splash screen no longer pops up, however there might be other checks (online/offline etc) that LogosRootFolder\Logos.exe does, so you probably won't get any support if something breaks.

This works on Windows not sure if will on Mac.

How do you get to see this?

Normally, when I click on the Logos icon in the dock the programme opens to the home page.

Every so often when I have to restart either the computer or logos due to an update; I get a small box with 'preparing your library' for a few seconds and then the home page opens.

This occurs Mike on the Windows version just before the 'preparing your library' message every time you reopen Logos. It was there in L8 also, I do not remember if in L7. Perhaps the splash Logos.exe equivalent is not in the MacOS version and it just launches main program instead?

Thanks for the comments. I'll have a few play arounds with that or variations on the theme.

I'm happy if it says "Logos 9" or even "Logos 9 by Faithlife". It's even OK if it says "Loading setup data and configs ..."

What I dislike is when the marketing people put that other unwelcome junk, which I don't want to see.

I pay YouTube so I don't see adverts, and I subscribe to all kinds of other things, so I have some control over screen adverts. e.g I register a lot of "free" apps on my iPhone and iPad etc.

I want a solution that won't need me to find a hex editor and to hack the message away, if that's even possible.

I believe it is considered a corporate mission statement rather than marketing/advertisement. Please note the final statement in the excerpt from wikipedia:

Yes, contempt is a useful word in this context.

I don't want to see that for 20-30 seconds every time I load the application. (A simple search over the last 10 years will find a range of users complaining about the extremely slow startup speeds of the app.) Its never really got much better. This PC is a quad-core i5, and total time to load still feels like minutes. So while that message is only maybe 30 seconds of the 2 minutes start-up, it mainly serves to remind me which company still can't write apps that open in 5-10 seconds, like most apps can.

OK, so after turning on the ngen option and a few other things, the splash screen only displays around 3 seconds, and the layout opens and is "ready" by around 18 seconds now. Unsure which of all the various things I tried made most of the improvements.

I still don't want that message on the splash screen, but if it goes away within a few seconds I can almost live with it. But earlier tonight it was sitting there for over a minute, and that really set me off. So I'm not hunting for a working hex editor yet ...

(Starting the app using the COM API makes no difference. The splash screen still appears. And for now, I can't find any notes on any command-line startup parameters. The COM API allows passing of startup options, but I'm unsure of what ones, if any, the app supports. Maybe there are notes deep in the forum pages. I was hoping for /nosplash or something like that.)

Most programs I use have some sort of splash screen. How long it lasts depends on the hardware of my computer when loading it.

Agreed, Kevin and Rosie, I was taking a (mistaken) guess that the OP may have actually been annoyed by the Home Page/Screen, rather than the Splash Screen, since he specified "advert," "over the top" and "triggers my strong dislike." The actual splash is pretty benign compared to the standard home page for advertising.

Sorry... but I like the splash screen. I vote don't change it.

And as I watch my memory usage when Logos is loading... Logos is loading a lot. And I know programs have to load thing into memory before they work right.

I'll just point out that there is a perception in some parts of the software industry that splash screens can be annoying and that paying for the software lets you get rid of them.

I'm sorry you don't like the splash screen... for what it's worth, it's been there since the very beginning.

As far as I know it's programmed to display right away -- so that you know your app invocation worked -- and to disappear as soon as the app is loaded enough to use. We aren't trying to force anyone to look at it, and it's only there as long as is required for the operating system to load and initialize the main app.

I believe that's a graphic, so if you're hacking our executable (which I highly do NOT recommend) you'd be looking for that embedded image resource. not those words.
