Label Sermon
This is the transition post which serves two purposes. First, to convince you that you know enough to learn new labels and other datatypes by yourself. Second, to remind you that you have the necessary background pieces to put together meaningful searchs.
Documentation
From Verbum Help:
- Sermon
- Labels a single sermon in a collection of sermons. A search for this label populates the "Sermons" guide section.
- Creator ~ "..." — Creator is the normalized name of the person who developed and delivered the sermon.
- Title ~ "..." — Title is name given to the sermon by its creator.
- Subtitle ~ "..." — Subtitle is the ancillary title information given by its creator.
- Series ~ "..." — The series in which the sermon was originally preached, if any.
- References ~ <Bible ...> — Bible references for the sermon as a whole.
- Date ~ <Date ...> — Is when the sermon was first delivered.
- Liturgical Date ~ <LiturgicalDate ...> — Is typically the liturgical date when the sermon was first delivered.
- For example:
- {Label Sermon WHERE Author ~ "Charles H. Spurgeon" AND References ~ <Bible Romans 5-7>}
- {Label Sermon WHERE Title ~ "Signs of the King" AND Creator ~ "Timothy J. Keller" AND References ~ <Bible Acts 2:37-47> AND Date ~ <Date Aug 13, 1989> AND Series ~ "The King and the Kingdom"}[1]
Ask yourself
- Do I expect to see this label in the Concordance Guide?
- What information will I get in the Information tool?
- What information will I get in the Context Menu? What actions will I be offered?
- Can I write a Search for the label? Modify it to meet my needs?
Introduction to the Search
- Which search terms go directly against the Bible text? (text and phrase searches)
- Which search terms require a reverse interlinear which adds as potential errors
- Human error in tagging
- Selection of an option in ambiguous cases
- Differences in the underlying original language text and the text actually used by the translators?
- Which search terms use subjective tagging and theologically influenced terminology?
- Which searches can you confirm by searching in a different manner?
Yes, that’s it. Tomorrow we start building searches, some invented to illustrate a point, some taken from the forums as searches users actually run, some borrowed from various training materials. Feel free at any time to suggest alternative solutions and to toss out searches you’d like to see addressed.
