Sense

The (Bible) Sense datatype offers links to two Verbum tools:

  • Factbook
  • Bible Sense Lexicon

With the Factbook currently in a state of flux, the Sense record is essentially empty.

The Bible Sense Lexicon shows:

  • Term
  • Part of speech
  • Definition
  • Use frequency spark chart
  • Lemmas with transliteration, gloss, and references
  • Relationships
  • See also section with a Factbook link, a Topic Guide link, and the Louw-Nida number
  • Hierarchical word net image

Thing

The (Biblical entity) Thing datatype provides links to:

  • Factbook
  • Atlas

The Look up function provides considerably more than the usual maximum of 5 resources:

Factbook began with a scope of the Biblical entities so it is no surprise that the Factbook entry is well populated:

Factbook: Key Article

The Key Article is chosen by a formula that considers my prioritization of type:encyclopedia resources.

Factbook: Media

In the Media section, it often takes a bit of research to identify why an image was brought up under “locust”. In this case the first image is titled: “Desert Locust Swarm in Desert Scenery”. But note there is also an option to open the Media tool and to run a media search.

Factbook: Key Passages

The selection of references as “key” is subjective; consider these a suggestion. The full list of references in the prior Factbook is omitted in this version. Note the options to create a Passage List and to view the Bible in a filtered manner.

Factbook: Referred to As

This section has three sections – Hebrew, Greek, Translation target language – each with their own options to save as a Passage List and to view the Bible in a filtered manner.

The basic data offered is:

  • Lemma
  • Transliteration
  • Pronunciation
  • Gloss
  • Count
  • References

Factbook: Events

The Events section displays Biblical Events that feature locust. The standard save as Passage List and open Bible in filtered mode are present.

Factbook: Biblical Senses

Biblical Senses simply supplies a list of the relevant entries.

Factbook: Dictionaries

The dictionaries open to a single entry (unlike the look up in the Context Menu). The first five resources are followed by a “more” to see additional entries. Note the sequence of the resources match that of the Context Menu.

Sermons are listed by author and link directly to the actual sermon text.

Factbook: See Also

In the See Also section, both Topics and Related link to other Factbook pages. The Guides, Workflows, and Search link to Verbum tools.

The Context Menu link to Atlas does not necessarily highlight the occurrence of locust that chose the particular map choices to be selected. We are offered links to Factbook and Media Search and Biblical Events in which locust play a part. In this case, five events/maps are offered.

Selecting any entry in the Look up section will open the Bible dictionary resource to the indicated article.

Event(s)

The Biblical Event is also an early entry in Factbook. Here the Context Menu offers us three links to tools:

  • Factbook
  • Atlas
  • Biblical Event Navigator

There are no Look up entries.

The Factbook has fewer sections than it had for the Biblical entity locust thing, but the pattern of the entries is similar.

The Atlas, also, is similar to what was seen for locust – only the selection criteria differs.

The Biblical Event Navigator has not appeared as a tool in this post.  It shows the Biblical Events in a hierarchical manner and shows the texts that narrate the event.

Preaching theme(s)

From Husser, Lydia. Preaching Themes: Dataset Documentation. Bellingham, WA: Faithlife, 2016.:[quote]

•  Baptism

•  Description: The act of using water to admit a person into the Christian community, whether as an adult or infant.

•  Scope: Includes infant and believer’s baptism.[1]

There are multiple Preaching Themes, each of which is treated as an independent datatype entry. Each has links to:
  • Factbook
  • Sermon Starter Guide (discussion deferred)

There are no Look up entries although I would expect a link to the documentation.

The Preaching Theme entry in Factbook has yet to be converted to the Key Article format – my clue for whether revision is really underway. I am deferring all homily features to much later in this series.
