Bible search searches default Bible as well as the Bible I requested

When I do a Bible search for a Scripture passage on a Bible other than my default Bible, Logos also searches my default Bible. But the"search" simply brings up the Scripture passage I enter. It does not search for cross references.

This happens whether or not I have the facet open for my default Bible. It wastes search time (not much, granted) and it clutters the search results with something I did not search for. Further, it does not actually execute the requested search on the default Bible.

There seems to be an increasing trend in Logos to search for what it thinks I want rather than what I actually ask for.

I believe this is by design. The preferred Bible search for reference has been around for a while. It's behavior did not change when the main routine added the footnote feature in this beta.

I never noticed before. It does not happen if you do a Bible search for any text other than a Scripture reference. Are there other situations that it occurs?

The only reason I could think that they would do this was to provide the Scripture passage as a reference point when you search in a Bible reference for a cross reference. But it strictly does not adhere to the search parameters, either in terms of the selected Bible or the search terms.

IIRC their logic was something along the lines of

most users don't know their text from their reference from their milestone

users who enter a reference into a Bible search expect a result not a blank screen

therefore we will give them something - their reference in their preferred Bible.

No, it does not fit into the general structure of the search and IMHO makes it more difficult to understand the search -- but FL seems to believe their customer base has poorer reasoning skills than I generally attribute to them. Oops, am I supposed to say that out loud?

Exactly. If a given search does not produce predictable results that fit the search syntax, how will people ever learn what a particular search syntax is supposed to do?

Logos already has a fuzzy search, which can be quite useful for certain purposes. But I don't want all types of searches to become "fuzzy."

I hope Logos will not move in the direction of Google, which seems to think it knows better than the user does what she is looking for. If FL is going in that direction, then maybe they need to add a "Do you really mean...:" link in the search results where the search you actually entered is executed. [+o(]
