Why is the link option greyed out in my notes?

I would like to link to an Excel file I made to compare usages of οἶδα and γινώσκω in the Gospel of John. I started by making a note on the form ἔγνωσαν in John 16:3, but would like to link to my Excel file where I have the comparison data.

The link icon in my notes editor, however, is greyed out.

I can't seem to find the option to enable it, so I could link to an external file. Can it be done?

you can paste URLs into the note, which will automatically work as links.

You can select any text in the note and then the link button will become active and you can put in a link - again basically a URL.

If you use dropbox or something like that, or have a local webserver to your files on your machine, it will work great. Otherwise there probably will be an issue - for security reasons, current OS versions no longer allow simply linking a folder path with file:// ...
