In looking in my library at the new types, I see many works written ABOUT confessional documents that are tagged AS confessional documents. Eg. von Harnack, and Swete on the Apostles' Creed, Burn on the three creeds, Schaff Creeds of Christendom, Stevenson Creeds, Councils, and Controversies, Wesley's Short Commentary on the Church Catechism, etc.

Would a separate category for Confessional Documents Aids (commentaries, studies, etc.) be the best solution?

If so, there are lots of studies of the Lutheran Confessions that can be included...

I think a type along the lines of "Confessional Document" aids would be useful. We've got alot of them available!

I think that these books are generally tagged as they are because they contain confessional documents, often lots of them.
