Forcing a series of notes to go into a particular notebook
I want to take a series of notes and highlights and always have it go into a particular notebook that is associated with a resouce. I can see that if I have a notebook open while I highlight text and take notes, the notes and highlights go into that notebook.
- How can I force the notes and highlights to go into a notebook associated with a resource?
- How can I put highlights into a certain notebook, even when the Notes tool is closed?
- Is there a way to make notes and highlights for one resource to go into one notebook and notes and highlights for a different resource? This is particularly valuable if I have a few resources open at once, such as a Bible and multiple commentaries. I don't want to be distracted by having to choose a different notebook every time I add highlights to a different book.

You can't associate a Notebook with a resource. You can choose a Notebook for a Note in the Context menu, but see below for Highlights.
2. How can I put highlights into a certain notebook, even when the Notes tool is closed?
Choose a Notebook for the palette in the Highlighting tool, or choose the "Active notebook" if that can be established outside the Notes tool.
3. Is there a way to make notes and highlights for one resource to go into one notebook and notes and highlights for a different resource?
No.
You will have to fix matters after the event. Select the resource in the Sidebar filter of the Notes tool, select all the Notes/Highlights and change the Notebook in the third column.

You can't associate a Notebook with a resource.
In the old notes system, highlighting for each resource were separate for the resource. When these were converted over to the new notes system, they were put into separate notebooks. What I am looking for is a similar outcome, where the notes and highlights for a resource go into their own notebook.
choose the "Active notebook" if that can be established outside the Notes tool.
How can the active notebook be established outside of the Notes tool? As far as I can see, the only way to establish an active notebook is to have the Notes tool open. Then I can force highlights to go into that notebook.
Thanks, Dave.

In the old notes system, highlighting for each resource were separate for the resource.
In the new system you can identify Notes and Highlights belonging to a resource. Hence my suggestion, if necessary, to merge multiple Notebooks into a single Notebook. You would have to repeat this for all the resources you recently highlighted/noted.
How can the active notebook be established outside of the Notes tool?
Hence the reason for the "if" in my response.
