I just left a recommendation on the product page for this title. I do not share Bevere's general perspective on Bible-related matters, but I was consistently pleasantly surprised at how often I agreed with his statements in this book. I am currently working on a book on this subject (among dozens of others), and while I intend to be a bit more exhaustive, there were numerous places where statements he made substantially mirror my own perspective or even passages I've already written. I will probably reference this work extensively. I have said plenty of times on this forum that I rarely agree with anything I have in my Logos library aside from Bibles and some lexical aides, but since this is such a rare exception, I thought I would note it here.
NB--I just read the product page, and it gives a sense of the book that I think is a bit misleading, since it panders to the ultra-common "fear doesn't mean fear...it means revere" perspective. Never mind that the word "revere" literally comes from the Latin word for fear...as in FEAR...but the current usage of "revere" in English is always palmed off as meaning "respect". Though he could be more forceful on this point, Bevere makes it plain that it is much more than simple respect that is intended throughout Scripture.
Also, there are some places where my perspective diverges on this topic, but on the whole this book is an excellent treatment of the subject.
