Tagging and Retrieving Notes using Tags.

I am going to try this again. I keep using this wonderful tool, and it is the best I have ever found, but I keep banging my head against the wall because I can't get back to the note I have worked so hard to create.

I have over 700 notes that I have created in Logos. Most of them have tags on to enable quick retrieval of those notes using tags. But when I try to find those tags and call up those notes, it fails.

There are TWO basic tasks I want to see.

1. When creating a note, I want to see a list of all tags where I can choose which tags the best compliment the note's topic. In the same manner, if I am editing a note, I want to click a tag button and see ALL the tags where I can decide if I want to ADD, REMOVE or CREATE a tag for that note.

2. When searching for a note, I want to see a list of all tags to choose which notes I want to review. I am thinking of a button or field that would open a list of all tags to select the related tags.

In the MOBILE version of Logos, there is a method for exactly what I am describing above. However, the fact that it is on the phone is also its weakness because it is so small the application fails in not giving me enough screen area to see everything I am working on.

1. When I create a note, I can select the "Edit Tags" menu and see all tags where I can select the ones that apply to the topic of that note. But it does not allow me to see multiple things I am working on and have to keep bouncing around making edits or reviewing items that should be in my face all the time.

2. When I want to find notes based upon a tag, I can search, and it gives me a list of all the tags I have, and I can mark the ones I want to filter by. This is great, and it works, but again it is limited by the screen's size.

The PC version of Logos FAILS in doing both of these things is among the most important steps I do in my research. I would really like to review ALL tags and compare the notes to those tags and decide if I need to ADD, REMOVE, EDIT, or CREATE new tags, OR decide which note would be best used for the message I am preparing. But I can't because there is no way to see all those tags in one place or review the notes attached to those tags.

Could Logos PLEASE add the functionality on the PC version that could do this?

Richard, all you want is available in an app called Obsidian.

If Logos devs would look at Obsidian and were interested in implementing the features, then we would have the perfect note-taking function.

In Obsidian, we have tags that are automatically created using "#" before the word. These tags are listed and numbered based on how many times they are used.

Moreover, it is possible to check all tags at once, even seeing each tag's connections with other tags. It allows us to choose an orphaned topic that probably needs more attention.

All this with simple txt notes (formatted in Markdown format)

Sadly, though Logos Notes are improving little by little, there is still a looong way to match modernity in terms of features (take Markdown format as an example).

Would be nice to have features like obsidian. What makes it better at notetaking is the time it takes to create and find notes compared to logos.

The main problem with tagging in Logos notes are based on three things that should be in place for finding notes:

linked notes
unlinked references
tag count

The fasets feature solves the tag count problem.

To find linked and unlinked references, not so obvious. But it can be solved within logos.

Consider the first line in a note as a title, for instance ”Key Passages”. Put a tag on that note “t.Key.Passages” corresponding to the title. Create a Search for Docs: “Key Passages” NOT “t.Key.Passages”. Copy the link for this search and link the note heading with it. Clicking the link will find all notes that mentions ”Key Passages” but not tagged “t.Key.Passages”. When you link an unlinked mention, add the “t.Key.Passages” tag of the note your linking to in that note’ tags. It won’t popup in the search again. Work your way through notes elimimating them as you link and tag.

To find notes linked to a note just use the corresponding tag for the title under tags in fasets or change the search query to include the tag.

I’m not good at taking notes. I always struggle and end up deleting everything, because I can’t find them easily like sermons in sermon manager. But the above approach solve a huge problem I found in how I think about notes.

My obsidian and Logos notes link automatically. It’s just to see the links in the graph view to satisfy my visual brain. It’s just a bunch of uuid’s that link back to notes. Notes in Logos are much more powerful than obsidian and save a lot of time when you reach 64k. The trick is to find a solution inside logos that serves your purpose. At the end, the 64k notes was deleted, they were 7 years of practicing and thinking on how to max out note and sermon making.
