Bug: Incorrect search from Selection menu

If I select a phrase in an English Bible, then choose Search from the Selection menu, I would expect the search to find instances of that phrase.

However, if I select "under Law" in Galatians 4:21, then choose Search, the search is only on the Greek word Law. The search created is lemma:νόμος. I would expect the search to also include the Greek word for "under" (ὑπό). I have seen Logos do this at times, but not in this instance.

What is special about this search that it only searches on the one word rather than the selected phrase?

I would expect the average English Bible user to be confused by this behavior.

I am using Logos 9.4. I have Prefer Lemmas on in the program Settings.

Do you mean "under the law"? I can't find the specific phrase you mention. And my search results are as expected

Apologies for being unable to replicate using Logos 9.4 RC 1 on macOS Big Sur 11.2.3

FYI: learned Lexham English Bible has "under the law" in Luke 2:27 to translate genitive/ablative use (does not have a preposition). More complete "under the law" search in Greek New Testament is (<Lemma = lbs/el/ὑπό> OR <Lemma = lbs/el/ἐν>) BEFORE 3 WORDS <Lemma = lbs/el/νόμος> (as preposition ἐν has translations of "in" or "under")

I believe you are talking about the search generated from the selection popup when Prefer Lemmas is turned on.

The reason why this is done is that original language phrase searches are not going to give accurate results when performed on a translated Bible, because the order of the words being searched is based on the translated words, not the actual order of the original language words.

In order to accomplish this kind of search, you will want to select the phrase in an original language Bible. For example, SBLGNT generates this search: lemma:ὑπό BEFORE 4 CHARS lemma:νόμος
