Do you intend for introductions to theologians and such (i.e. books to be read before reading the actual works of) to be considered study guides? I'm thinking of the "A Guide for the Perplexed" and the "Armchair Theologian" series.

That's a good question that I'll need to think through a bit more. My initial feeling is that it is a good idea for a few reasons.

I want to move as far as I can from dumping everything in "Monograph". Moving any title from "Monograph" to something else feels like a move in the right direction.
The overarching rubric for classifying a title as a Study Guide is a title that "can be broad based to facilitate learning in a number of areas, or be resources that foster comprehension of literature, research topics, history, and other subjects." These series seem to fit that description.

My only real argument against was that we were leaning towards focusing on titles that had an element of explicitly encouraging individuals or groups to work through the material via reflection or discussion questions.

That's a good question that I'll need to think through a bit more.

I can relate to the idea that study guides should encourage studying by questions.

Maybe creating a type "Introduction" would help? (my mind is thinking: we have type:Bible-Commentaries and other Commentaries on other things, so why don't we have type:New-Testament-Introductions and other Introductions on other things, such as to theologians)

Right now we have Type:New Testament Introduction and Type:Old Testament Introduction, but introductions to the Bible (e.g., LLS:HLYPEOPHLYLAND, LLS:INTRODUCTIONBBL, LLS:NCBCINTRO) or to smaller pieces of the Bible (e.g., LLS:INTROGOSJOHN, LLS:NWNTRDCTNSYNPTC) have no place to go but as monographs. Then you get other Bible-oriented stuff like LLS:STCMPNNHSCNDDTN and LLS:BIBINTREARLYCH, which also awkwardly remain as monographs.

I don't have any great ideas (even by my standards) as to how best to classify this stuff yet. Of course, I'm not entirely sure how this should/does all related to Type:Handbook, either. Going by my library, it seems to be the Type that all and only books with "Handbook" in the title belong in...
