adding books to a collection

I am finding this really frustrating.

Long story very short

There is a series of books The Transformative Word.  Some are commentaries, some are study guides.  So I created a collection of study guides and added that to my passage guide.  

I just downloaded the rest of the set, and one book in there is a monograph.  I am trying to add that one book to my collection of study guide.  I tried dragging it.  didn't work.  I tried author:name.  that didn't work  I tried mytag: study guide   That didn't work.

what am I missing?

If you tagged it as Study Guide, then you need mytag:study-guide  (no spaces). It should also be included with series:transformative

But what is the Rule for your collection?

If your collection is included in the Commentaries section of Passage Guide, you will only get results from the Bible Commentaries of that series. Put it in a Collections section to get results from your study guides (and what you tag as such).

study guide was already a Logos category, so I just typed type:study guide.  It filled it with Study guide and Bible study.

Then I got this new book in the series which is a monograph.  I tagged it studyguide, added mytag:studyguide to the collection, but nothing.

Is the resource currently downloaded? If not, then it won't show up in the collection.

What now is your Collection rule (it should look something like type:study OR mytag:studyguide because type:study guide will exclude some resources).

I am trying to add that one book to my collection of study guide.  I tried dragging it.  didn't work.

From where did you try dragging it? If I float a library window, I'm able to drag monographs into the "plus this resource" part of a collection.

Not sure what you mean by that. Please post screen shots of both collections so we can see what is going on.
