Sermons – by reference

From Verbum Help: [quote]

Sermons Section

This section lists sermons that have been labeled with the guide’s key reference or topic.

Note: sermons within published sermon collections are most likely to have been labeled, and not every potential sermon has (yet) been labeled.

User-added Sermon labels are also searched by this section. For more about the Sermon label scheme, see Searchable Labels.[1]

Prerequisite reading: none

Resources included:

The criterion for inclusion is the presence of a {Label Sermon} label. This includes, in my library, most type:sermon, many “collected works of” and patristic resources, . . .

A search for {Label Sermon} against all resources should give you a complete list of sermon-labeled resources in your library. In my case this is 634 resources of which 352 are type:sermon. This amounts to about 63% percent of the sermon resources being tagged.

Search

A search to duplicate the results of this guide section is easily built in the form of {Label Sermon WHERE References ~ <Mk 1:9–11>}. What one is lacking is the ability to sort them into homilist sequence although resource, count, and rank options are available.

Supplemental materials

While there is no specific support for analyzing other’s homilies, the following tools are worth exploring for the creation of your own homilies:

  • Guide: Sermon Starter – Bible reference form
  • Guide: Sermon Starter – Preaching theme form
  • Workflow: Expository Sermon Preparation
  • Workflow: Ralph West’s Weaving the Textual Web (adapted from “Weaving the Textual Web” by Ralph West from the book Power in the Pulpit: How America’s Most Effective Black Preachers Prepare Their Sermons, edited by Cleophus J. LaRue (Westminster John Knox, 2002))
  • Workflow: Topical Sermon Preparation
  • Tool: Homily Builder
  • Tool: Homily Manager

Note that the guides and workflows are all single passage in their orientation and, therefore, not meeting the needs of the Catholic (or nearly any liturgical) homilist.
