To Whom it May Concern:

How do I find all 33 places in the New Testament where the NT author quotes or alludes to Psalm 110?

Thank you.

Jeremy

Psalm 110 is quoted or alluded to

  • thirty-three times in the NT, and an additional

  • seven times in early Christian authors.

See D. M. Hay, Glory at the Right Hand: Psalm 110 in Early Christianity (Nashville/New York: Abingdon Press, 1973), 15, 45–47.1

1 James R. Edwards, The Gospel according to Mark, The Pillar New Testament Commentary (Grand Rapids, MI; Leicester, England: Eerdmans; Apollos, 2002).

A Bible search of {Label Intertext WHERE Corpus ~ "New Testament" AND Source ~ <Psalm 110>} should give you what you want. However, you will find little consistency in what different sources consider to be an allusion ...

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

A great place to start searches like this is to use the search templates.

    1) Click the hamburger menu in the Search Panel.

    2) Find the search you want.

    3) Fill out the pop-up menu.

You can uses these searches as a foundation to modify and experiment.

Note, with the search you are looking for, you will have to search several times—once for allusion, citation, etc.

you will have to search several times—once for allusion, citation, etc.

Or omit the attribute entirely and get all values.

I don’t have my laptop with me at the moment, but if you have a base package you’ve probably got the New Testament Use of the Old Testament interactive. You could just open it (bottom of Tools menu), and browse on Source to Ps 110. I’m afraid I can’t give you a screenshot at the moment, hopeully that points you in the right direction.
