Using the Filter Function in the Logos 9 Library

I have just purchased the Complete Classic Commentaries Bundle, which contains 1,863 new commentaries for my Logos library. About half of these resources are found in a series, and the other half are individual books or monographs.

Because I have created layouts for each book of the Bible, I want to work over the next few months to place these new commentary resources into these layouts. To do this, I need to be able to filter this collection in my library over the days and weeks ahead. I am able to filter them now by opening the Library and going to "Added" and selecting "Today". But this function only allows me to filter today, or 7 days, or 14 days, or 30 days only.

My questions is how can I filter these 1,863 new resources in this bundle in the weeks and months ahead as I gradually add them to my layouts for each book of the Bible? The Library is unable to filter the collection title "Complete Classic Commentaries Bundle". It can only filter the series titles.

I would apply a tag to all of them - in the screenshot below I have selected all the resources I have added in the last seven days (select one and then Ctrl/Cmd A will select all of them) and applied the tag CCSBundle

Then you can filter on that tag to just show those resources in your library

This tag will persist until you choose to modify / delete it.

In addition to tagging your resources now, note also that you can manually apply an arbitrary "added" filter by typing it in the find box above the list of resources. You can look for a specific date, before or after a specific date, or an arbitrary amount of time before the current date. Ok Garry, I have seen this suggestion or ones like it over the years and after scratching my head passed over them. Today I have decided to ask?

When I want to study a passage the last thing I want is a layout cluttered with resources that I am likely to read and then not refer to again. I find the the list of commentaries in the Passage Guide allows me to open, close and keep on hand all my resources.

How is the work of tagging them and having them open in a layout worth the time and effort to tag them and the congestion to display them?

I am also interested in answers to this question. I normally just create a Passage Study Layout or simply run a Passage Guide when I start studying a passage.

Good question.

I am not preparing for a sermon or a teaching lesson.

Rather, I am developing Bible commentaries.

Therefore, I read through an entire pericope in each resource commentary before opening another commentary. I may read comments on ten verses or so.

I also like to work through a passage study in a chronological order of commentaries, such as looking at the early Church fathers first and working into the commentaries written during the Reformation, and then into modern commentaries.

The Passage Guide provides a list of commentaries, but they seem to be randomly listed.

I like to search my commentaries on a book of the Bible in chronological order.

I have a layout for each book of the Bible as well as other Topical studies. This layout has a box for Hebrew or Greek as well as a box for dictionaries and encyclopedias.

These layouts allow me to move very quickly through a lot of information rather than waiting for the Passage Guides to populate.

I like to search my commentaries on a book of the Bible in chronological order.

Sorting search results By Resource (title) results in chronological ordering: e.g. Rejoice WITHIN {Milestone <Pp4.4-9>}

Thankful for Logos 9 & Verbum 9 Passage Guide having commentary section, which allows grouping of commentaries by Era.

For others who may happen upon this thread. The default order is priority sequence - you may set your own priorities in the library panel or allow the Logos default priority to be used. In the desktop one may also chose to have them in any of the following sequences:

series
author
denomination
type
era
