Match notebook tab label to notebook of active note

The tab for a notebook has a label that is independent of the notebook of the active note. I don't really see the reason behind this, though maybe there is one. Shouldn't the notebook tab label match the notebook of the active note? Example below:

It would be nice if the tab dynamically followed the active notebook. Particularly, it would be nice if when we moved one note into a new notebook using the dropdown menu, if it opened that note in a new tab that was opened to the notebook.

P.S. Also, maybe instead of the tab icon here matching the add note icon in the context menu it could match the notebook icon in the sidebar? (And maybe that icon could be a notebook stack?)

How did you generate this example?

If I have a note selected and then select a new notebook, the tab title changes to match the new notebook (as expected) but the active note is not changed and so its notebook is still shown directly above it.

If I then select a note from the selected notebook, the notebook name directly above the note changes as well.

This seems reasonable to me - given the steps I am taking

Are you doing something different? Or expecting different behaviour?

The behavior you describe does seem reasonable, but I think it would also make sense for the active note to immediately switch to the latest note made in that notebook. I don't have a preference here either way.

But my example comes from changing the location of a note from one notebook to another. Here I would expect the active notebook to change as well or, optionally, for a new notebook tab to open to the new location, with the old tab preserved and the next note in the stack now displayed in that notebook.

I don't really see the purpose of remaining in the same notebook if you've changed the location of your active note. Maybe to move to the next note and then modify it, but you would still have to manually select the other note and this may be handled better by simply selecting and modifying multiple notes at once.

In my case, I find that I usually interface with notes through the source text they are attached to, so I've never made much use of the sidebar navigation in notebooks, but I guess other people use this feature then there is a downside to my suggestion.

Thanks for clarifying - I understand better now.

So it isn't that the notes tab does not reflect the name of the active notebook - it is that the active notebook is not changed when moving a note from one notebook to another.

I understand why changing the active notebook could be helpful in some situations but in the case of someone having a notebook and wanting to distribute notes within it to multiple notebooks it would be somewhat unhelpful.

I guess the developers needed to make a choice as to what to do in this case - and there are probably arguments both ways.
