At last we have successfully finished the install & indexing which took about 3 hrs to complete. However, after first install & index it crashed. I had updated Galaxie files from their website and I don't know if it helped but forced a scan of directory and on next index it completed. I have included the log files for your reference.

I have a new pre-pub comming tomorrow and don't want to go through indexing twice. Last time I indexed it took 10 hours (an improvement on 13 hrs).

From your post, are you saying that the installation and index process only took you 3 hrs?

Is that an improvement on the last time that you successfully indexed your resources?

I have to index overnight because my system slows down and I need to use it during the day.

    David,

Thanks for the log files. It appears that indexing completed successfully. Have subsequent program and resource updates downloaded and installed without problem?

    Thanks,
    Melissa

    Hi Melissa,

Actually, that was a point I wanted to ask about.  The program asked me, after I had installed B4 & indexed, if I wanted to download B4 (25 megs). I wondered if it was a further update but was concerned that if I started the download, it might have caused another re-index and I did not want to hold my computer up for that again.

Can you confirm that if I download that update that the program will not need to re-index.

    Thanks,
    David

    Gidday Ian,

Yes, there is an improvement on previous betas. I have 693 resources and it did complete in about 3 hrs or so. I would say that it knocked about an 1.5 hrs off the previous indexing time.

It is much faster than it was before. Mine says it indexed 3950 resources in 5 hours 20 minutes which is mush faster than the 12 hours it was taking before. It is also listing tons of warnings so it looks like there is still some improvement to be made which will be even better. Keep up the good work and may its speed increase exponentially! :D

Two software updates were released, both B4, but different builds. So that is why you saw the second 25mb download. After that second one, there might have been just a short preparing of your library, but possibly not a reindexing. However, a large resource update was released later yesterday, which would have prompted a reindexing.

    Hi Melissa,

    Thanks again for your help.

Now, I downloaded the 25 meg second update & then the 1.4 gbs of updated resources but my computer crashed with a blue screen about half way through the download (this is unrelated to L4 as it has happened before). Fortunately, after reboot the download continued from where it left off or thereabouts. However, the indexer kicked into action when computer restarted & also the remaining downloads were brought in (perhaps the first (incomplete) download triggered it off ???).  This is a problem because as soon as the remaining download finished and I started L4, the indexing process began all over again. I really think the user should have control over the indexer. At least, to have the ability to turn off the automatic function and to choose when to index. I don't think the "pause for 4 hrs" is good enough.

I decided not to let it go through the index process last night and let it re-index this morning. However, the indexer crashed about half way through its time of indexing. It seems to be the NRSV interlinear that may have been the culprit. I have attached the files for your attention.
