can you delete from the "Read" bar?

Apologies if this is a stupid question but I have been messinga round on my iphone and have been looking at a few books with the result that the "Read" icon gives a choice of several books including those that I am not actually reading. I would like to get rid of those books that I am not actually reading, is there a way of doing this?

The question has been asked in other threads, adn so far as I can tell the only way (currently), is to uninstall/delete the app, then reinstall it.  I too have this problem as I was searching through some of my books with special formatting to check to see if the formatting works on my ipad, and all the ones I checked do not format correctly; yet my cached open book list at the bottom is now full of books that I  can't read.
