Unwanted display of special character before and after footnotes and endnotes in LDLS3

I am in the process of moving my Libronix Digital Library System 3.0a (LDLS3) from between two computers (replacing one laptop PC with a newer model) and have successfully restored by library system access on the new PC. However, the display of text with footnotes and endnotes shows a box before and after each. For example,

2 “So when you □¹□give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they □^a□may be honored by men. □^b□Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. (Matt 6:2 in the 1995 NASB)

This box isn’t displayed on the old PC. The box appears to be a special character before and after these footnotes and endnotes that shouldn’t show in the display but does in my new PC. (I added a similar character to this post since the paste of that verse in this post doesn’t show the box.) Any idea how to correct this?

Box display can be caused by using a different font (box shows character not found in font) so wonder if new PC has LDLS3 fonts from old PC ?
