    Welcome back to the forum!

Both lexical and discourse analysis are hugely broad areas. Theological? Critical? Historical? Sermon prep? Academic project? And many more.

It might be jelpful to narrow down?

It is an academic project. I am going to work on the lexical analysis first. My word is Logos in John 1. Here are the instructions:

    1. Choose a significant word in the passage. Briefly describe the reason for the choice of
    this word (significance, repetition, etc.).
    2. Determine the range of meaning of the word utilizing Greek lexicons (the following, if
possible, should be consulted: BDAG, Louw-Nida, Lexham Theological Wordbook, LSJ,
New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology and Exegesis, Thayer)
    3. Briefly describe other uses of the term or terms in its word-group (cognates) in the New
Testament book in which it occurs.
    4. Examine the “fit” of the meaning in context, considering the immediate context, larger
scope of the New Testament book, literary, and social, cultural, and historical
    dimensions, as appropriate.
    5. Discuss any possible ambiguity present with the use of the term. Do multiple sense of the
word make sense in the context? How do these influence the meaning of the passage?

Write a 16-20 page paper on this topic.

Wow, your project designer was both broadminded (BDAG and Thayer in the same sentence), but terribly sneaky (John 1). It seems to me, picking the right word can be an easy 20 pages, or a disasterous 1 page.

The obvious is 'word' but you'll quickly run out of lexical (mainly theological). Others like darkness, power, overcome and even generation have considerably more greek narritive to work with. If I were you, I'd select a bunch, and then just see how much depth for each one is in BDAG (as a quick test).

Remember the Lexham Greek NT Analytical  is a good kitchen-sink source ... they really packed a lot into each entry, including LXX usage, hebrew-base, etc

    Here are the instructions:

Since your prof suggest Lexham Theological Wordbook, I'm guessing he/she is familiar with Logos.

The 5 elements of the assignment seem like he/she wants you to open a Bible Word Study tool and work through the sections.
