Searching Within Logos Highlighting Styles
Before reaching out for some guidance on a Logos question, I’d like to offer my sincere appreciation for all of the time and expertise that is offered in this forum. I have learned a tremendous amount from you during my 1 year of experience using Logos. Thank you very much!
I am using a fully updated version of Logos Basic on a MacBook Air running OS Monterey 12.0.1. Setting aside the functional limitations of the Basic software, everything seems to be working great. My question involves how Logos displays highlighting in search results. I use a 5 color highlighting system for biblical text:
Purple - key point
Light blue - supports purple
Green - supports blue
Tan - supports green
Yellow - supports tan
I rarely use tan or yellow but so far the system seems to work for me.
The screen shot below shows the ESV bible on the left side of the screen, and Gordon Fee’s commentary on Philippians on the right side of the screen, both displaying highlighting. The panels are not sync'd.
When I search the bible and commentary highlighting for only “key points” using the {Highlight Purple} search argument, Logos returns the correct results but the highlighting is changed to yellow (see screen shot below). Shouldn’t search results be displayed with their assigned highlighting? I have also tried to differentiate using {Highlight Purple OR Blue}, but that returns zero results. Do I need to change my searching methodology, or scrap my highlighting system?
I searched previous posts for this topic but didn't see anything that spoke to this specific question. Thank you for any guidance you can send my way!

It may seem like minutia, but the second pic is not displaying "highlighting", it is displaying "search results" (the colors of your original highlights are still under the surface. Might it be helpful to colorize the Note ICON to reveal your scheme?

Thanks for your reply, David. Connecting some dots here...assuming that I want to preserve and search within my 5 color highlighting scheme, are you suggesting that I use 5 separate icons for highlighting, each one corresponding to the highlighting color I want to apply? I understand how to do this, but would this allow me to search the way I mentioned in my original post?
Thanks for your help. Mike

Welcome Michael.
Logos returns the correct results but the highlighting is changed to yellow (see screen shot below). Shouldn’t search results be displayed with their assigned highlighting? I have also tried to differentiate using {Highlight Purple OR Blue}, but that returns zero results. Do I need to change my searching methodology, or scrap my highlighting system?
You don't have to change your strategy, just accept that the search results will be highlighted in yellow without changing your underlying highlighting style. If you search for {Highlight Purple} OR {Highlight Blue}, results for the second term will be highlighted in blue (nothing to do with your style). But both results will be highlighted in yellow if you search for {Highlight Purple}, {Highlight Blue} (using a comma).
The search result highlighting is temporary and aids the identification of results when other user highlighting is present (Notes in yellow will be distinguished by their note icon).
