Yes ... if you try to use guides, text comps, etc, it'll invite you to connect.

By wifi, I assume you mean your home wifi, airport, etc. But yes, your hotspot also works.

So, if my phone has 5G and hotspot capability and I am not at a location with open wifi - so my Ipad which has blue tooth and wifi - can hook up to my phone 5G and use all the guides on my Ipad? Is that correct?

    Is that correct?

To be precise: Your app needs to be connected to the internet. How you connect it doesn't matter. You can be connected to a WIFI router which does not have internet, and that would be of no benefit to you in this situation. Likewise, you can have a hotspot, but your mobile device needs to be able to connect to it and the hotspot has to have internet.

I am assisting my father-in-law as we speak. His device is "connected to WIFI," but the modem is out of commission. For that reason, he is unable to do anything until we get that fixed.

I need some more help.  I have an I phone 13 - I am in a Starbucks studying.  Their wifi is not working.  My iPhone 13 says 5g connection.  Based upon JT's comment on 11/20/21 I can't take advantage of all the mobile features because I am not connected to WIFI.

So what is the big deal about 5G, the speed is only good if you are connected to WIFI which means; this where I need your help - that many of the features of logos don't benefit without a WIFI connection.

This can be frustrating when you spend much of your time on your desktop or laptop at home but when you are away and have some time to redeem the time, some, I don't know how many of the features don't work, i.e., "Bible Word Study" won't work without WIFI.

Is my thinking correct?  So whether 4g or 5g you still need a WIFI connection to be whole?

No this is not the case. Things should work properly with a 4G or 5G connection.

When you say the WiFi at Starbucks isn’t working, do you mean that it isn’t offering WiFi or that their WiFi doesn’t connect properly to the Internet? If that is the case, and you are connected to their WiFI, that could explain what you are seeing. If so, try turning WiFI off on your phone while you are there and see if that helps.

Graham, I so appreciate your time and knowledge in responding to so many questions.

My I pad pro - connects to the WIFI, but the message says the WIFI is down.  When I speak to a one of the employees, they say they are having trouble with the WIFI meaning I think that their router is not connecting to the WIFI.

My iPad Pro tries first to connect to any existing WIFI's but then will use my iPhone as a 'Hotspot'.  My iPhone says it is using 5G.  I believe that means that my iPad Pro is hooked up to a 5G network but it doesn't avail me any benefits for I am not able do some of the things I normally do on my desktop which I assume is because I am not hooked up to WIFI.

The only additional information is that when I am in public I use VPN for privacy.

Based on the above, I think that a certain number of features are not on a WIFI network. So 5G may be faster speed but when it comes to Logos software, it is still all about WIFI to get all the features available for the mobile app.

Please correct any thinking that is in error.

Based upon JT's comment on 11/20/21 I can't take advantage of all the mobile features because I am not connected to WIFI.

If you read my comment again, you will see that I actually said something quite different. You don’t need to be “connected to WIFI,” you need to be “connected to the internet.” The issues you are experiencing aren’t Logos related; they are technical hardware issues related to internet.

Being connected to “WIFI” or a “5G” cellular connection doesn’t guarantee that you actually have a connection to the internet. Here are some specific examples I have experienced in the past year:

    • Connected to WiFi at restaurant but the internet isn’t available
    • Connected to WiFi at hotel, but haven’t authenticated the connection with the hotel
    • Connected to 5G at football stadium, but bandwidth capacity is maxed (too many other people trying to use) and internet doesn’t work
    • Connected to 5G but have exceeded my data cap so internet doesn’t work.

None of these are Logos issues but all will impact features that require internet.

    This is wrong.

    • WiFi and 5G are wireless technologies, but telling us you are on WiFi or 5G doesn’t really tell us how fast your internet is at any given moment.
    • WiFi and 5G use different hardware on your device, but neither one is intrinsically “better” or “worse” for your use in Logos
    • In the forums, users like myself will say “you must be connected to WiFi“ when what is really meant is “connected to the internet.”

Which is better? The one with the fastest and most reliable internet connection. For most people, that will be WiFi at home and work. That may not be the case for you. 5G is “on the go” internet, but may be limited by coverage, data caps, population density.

I encourage to to reach out to a techie you know in real life… preferably someone who lives near you. They don’t need to know anything about Logos. They need to work with you to figure out how your various connections might best be utilized.

J T, thanks for your patience with me.  I still have trouble understanding the movie "The Matrix", I am 75 years old.  Maybe that is part of the problem?

When you say; "you must be connected to WiFi" means you need to be connected to the internet.

I think my struggle is that I was thinking that having 5G was like being on the internet which is not the case.

    Thanks for your help.

I think my struggle is that I was thinking that having 5G was like being on the internet which is not the case.

I know this can be confusing.

Most people will say things like, "Are you connected to WiFi?" and "Do you have a 5G connection?" when they mean "Are you connected to the internet?"

Most of the time, having a connection to WiFi and/or 5G will mean that you DO have a connection to the internet, but not always. As I mentioned in my examples above, there are times where you can be connected to WiFi or 5G and NOT have internet. This is why I recommend you buy coffee for a techie friend and work out some of these issues.

Also, don't feel bad about having troubles and don't let your youth and inexperience ([:)]) prevent you from continuing to grow and learn and doing the things you want to do. On Monday, I was "connected to WiFi" at my boys Scout Shack, which is "up the hill" from the Church that hosts them. Nothing worked. I tried using my iPhone as a hotspot. Nothing worked. I was trying to help a friend and she had a working connection to the internet, but we needed my computer to work as well. After half an hour of bumbling, I suggested that we move into the main building. The internet worked perfectly and we were able to finish things up.

I bored you with that just to say: It happens to all of us at times.
